Treat Mom to Brunch
Sunday, May 8, 2016, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. HoQ is featuring a Special A la Carte Brunch Menu on Mother’s Day. Moms will be able to choose from Small Plates, Bakeshop items or breakfast and lunch entrées at this East Village restaurant. HoQ will also be pouring bottomless Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s and Screwdrivers. Reservations recommended.
Sunday, May 8, 2016, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Mama Lacona’s serves up a great brunch every Sunday in Urbandale. Brunch is served buffet style. Prime rib, salmon, special entrees and desserts, omelet bar and shrimp cocktail are all on the menu.
Sunday, May 8, 2016 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. The Greenbriar in Johnston will be serving up a buffet brunch in honor of Mother’s Day. Breakfast dishes, salads, roast beef, ham, vegetables and desserts will be served. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are recommended.

Sunday, May 8, 2016, 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. Take Mom out to the old ball park. The Cub Club at Principal Park will be serving up brunch on Mother’s Day. Buffet includes bottomless mimosas for adults 21+. Reservations are recommended.
Gifts for Mom
If your mom loves reading as much as she loves you, books may be a go to gift. If she’s a true bibliophile she may have a list of her must reads. If not, you can always get her a gift card and let her search for one.
Kids can paint a special pottery project for Mom at Bulldog Ceramics in Ankeny. This is also a wonderful opportunity for Dad (grandparents or nanny) and children to paint together and create something special. Walk-ins are welcome call or visit their website for hours.
What mom doesn’t deserve a spa day? Now through Mother’s Day (May 8, 2016). For every $100 in gift cards purchased at East Village Spa you’ll receive a $20 Summer Spa Bucks voucher good toward weekday services June-September!
Fresh, chocolate-dipped strawberries are such a special gift for Mom! Chocolate-covered strawberries, berry cups and berry kabobs are available for pick-up Thursday, May 5 through Sunday, May 8. Remember, berries are best eaten within 24 hours so plan accordingly!
Kids can make a special garden inspired gift for Mom at one of Wright Solution’s Mother’s Day Garden Craft Workshops. Crafts include wood magnets, chalkboard planters and plant markers. The workshops are FREE while supplies last. Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Special Event’s to Celebrate Mother’s Day
May 7th at 10:30 am, join the First Lady of Iowa for a special Mother’s Day Tea, unique programs, and of course tea served in Iowa’s historic governor’s mansion. $40.00 per person. Visit Eventbrite.com for additional information and to purchase tickets.
May 8th, 8:30 am, the Des Moines Mother’s Day 5K & 10K Run/Walk races into town. Every finisher gets a rose. Mom’s is her’s to keep everyone else, it’s yours to give.
May 8th 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. In honor of Mother’s Day, all moms are admitted FREE of charge to Reiman Gardens. Take the kids and check out the new “Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® Bricks” by Sean Kenney”.
May 8th, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Mom’s get FREE admission to the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Enjoy some “me” time and explore the gardens on your own or take the whole family.
May 8th at 11:00 am to 8:00 pm feel like a kid again and catch a ride on the Heritage Carousel. It’s open for Mother’s Day. Mom’s ride FREE and receive a carnation, all other riders cost 50 cents for kids and $1.00 for adults.
May 8th at 12:45 pm, this family friendly ride organized by the Des Moines Bike Collective starts at The Riverwalk Hub. Choose from 1, 1.25, 2, 4, and 7 mile routes, set your own pace and feel free to turn back anytime you chose. No registration required and it is a FREE event, but donations are requested.
May 8th, 2:00 to 5:00 pm, a FREE glass of wine will be offered to mothers in celebration of Mother’s Day. Enjoy the day in the beautiful countryside near Madrid. You will also be able to listen to the music of the Bill Martin Group. If inclement weather, the event will be moved inside.
May 13th, 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Get all dressed up and enjoy a night of fun at the Ankeny Kirkendall Library with your favorite little man! DJ dance, pictures, refreshments & Party favors provided! This event is FREE and open to Moms (Grandmas) & their special little boys!
