Treat Dad to Brunch, Lunch or Dinner
Celebrate Father’s Day a little early at Hotel Renovo in Urbandale. They are throwing a paradise party just for dad on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 starting at 5:30 pm. Join them for their Cheeseburger in Paradise-Father’s Day Rendezvous for burgers, bocce ball and tequila tasting on the patio. Drink specials will also be available at the bar.
Raise a glass to Dad at this old-school Drake neighborhood fave where breakfast is served from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Get the Library Breakfast or Hangover Hash or go all “foodie” and try the La Mie Breakfast Croissant or Cheese Shop Omelet. Sit inside or out and perk up with a local brew. Then walk around campus and enjoy a sweet summer Des Moines day.
Treat Dad to Father’s Day Brunch with Peace Tree Brewing at The Iowa Taproom! Peace Tree is bringing the beer-some secret barrel aged deliciousness, orange gose, root beer and all the favorites. The Iowa Taproom is bringing all the food you could dream of. Think carved prime rib, smoked salmon, peel & eat shrimp, roasted pork loin, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and much more. Plus- a super large extra delicious dessert table. Adult tickets are $30 and kids just $12.
Treat Dad to one of the best tenderloins in Iowa (ranked THE best in 2016) at Nick’s on the Southside. He’ll feel like a royal when he orders the King or Queen sized fried pork goodness. If for some reason your dad isn’t into tenderloins, they also serve up great Italian beef sandwiches and pizza. You’ll also want to be sure to start everyone off sharing their addictive fried pickles.
Men gather to share their favorite dishes with family, friends, and community at this annual celebration hosted by the John R. Grubb YMCA on Saturday, June 24, 2017, the weekend after Father’s Day. Fathers, uncles, and brothers will cook, bake, and/or grill their signature dish to serve in sample servings for attendees. Family activities will include music, games, storytelling, face painting, and bounce houses. Tasting tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for kids.
Gift Ideas for Dad
According to the International Spa Association, a whopping 47% of spa goers are MEN. Who knew what Dad really wants is a spa gift card? Coachlight Clinic and Spa is offering up a number of spa packages designed specifically for men this Father’s Day. Ask them about their King for a Day, Gentlemen First and Weekend Warrior Packages, which include massages, facials, herbal wraps, products and more.
Let’s face it, Dads can be hard to buy for and they tend to buy what they want for themselves. This year give a gift that will keep on giving. Give him a gift certificate or book him a session for a “Daddy and Me Photo Shoot” with a local photographer. They will capture your (and his) favorite “Dad” moments with some special photos that he’ll cherish forever.
It’s no coincidence that National Bourbon Day, which is on June 14th, and Father’s Day are so close together! If your father is a bourbon fan, this is the year to give him something special. The Iowa Distillery has a Straight Bourbon Whiskey which they mash, ferment, distill, age, and bottle all at their Cumming, IA location. You can also find it, along with their other spirits, at local liquor and grocery stores in Des Moines.
Take your dad to a concert so he can get up close and personal with some other cool dudes. Plenty of Dad’s favorite artists are hitting the Hoyt Sherman stage this year. Whether he’s into the laid back sounds of Michael McDonald; wants to get a little funky with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic; or if he’s more into the blues, Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band & Beth Hart all fit the ticket for a great Father’s Day gift.
What Dad doesn’t love golf and beer? Broheim’s Indoor Golf & Pub features state-of-the-art golf simulators, in Waukee, where patrons can play the world’s most scenic and challenging courses. It’s also a fully operating bar, offering the best craft beers and top shelf liquors available. They have several membership packages available…or you could just treat Dad to lunch.
