The Des Moines Jazz Festival at the Des Moines Social Club

The second annual Des Moines Jazz Festival headliner is jazz vocalist Sasha Masakowski.  You can also hear Shotgun Jazz Band, a septet from New Orleans; the Twin Cities Latin Jazz Combo; Hermon Mehari jazz trumpeter; Izabel Crane a quintet from Springfield, MO; Dartanyan Brown, folk musician and Des Moines based NOLA Jazz Band.

Living History Farms will be open throughout the Labor Day Weekend and will be debuting their new exhibit “Step Right Up! Behind the Scenes of the Circus Big Top, 1890-1965”

Adventureland & Adventure Bay

Adventureland Park and Adventure Bay will be open weekends only by Labor Day with Adventure Bay closing for the season on Monday, September 4th.

Aquatic Centers

Saturday, September 2 – Monday, September 4, 2017

A few local pools are still open through the Labor Day Weekend. Cascade Falls Aquatic Center in Ankeny, and Nahas Aquatic Center in Des Moines are both open for you to take the family out for one last swim!

Blank Park Zoo

Saturday, September 2 – Monday, September 4, 2017

Say goodbye to summer and hello to one last hurrah at the Blank Park Zoo. They will be open during their normal business hours throughout the Labor Day Weekend.

Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden

Saturday, September 2 – Sunday, September 3, 2017

The Botanical Center will be open their normal hours on Saturday and Sunday, but will be CLOSED on Labor Day. On Saturday, September 2nd you can join them for one of their Saturday Drop In Programs.  This month they will be featuring Monarch Madness – Tracking the Monarch Migration.

Science Center of Iowa

Saturday, September 2 – Monday, September 4, 2017

The Science Center of Iowa will be open during their normal hours over Labor Day Weekend.  They will host a Star Party at 8:00 pm on Saturday, September 2nd where you will be able to observe the Moon, planets and other celestial objects. This event is FREE to the public and is held in partnership with the Des Moines Astronomical Society (DMAS).
