It’s the Nutcracker – and if you’re thinking about taking your kids to see it this holiday season, you’ve got a few options to choose from! Ballet Des Moines presents The Nutcracker

Audiences of all ages will be transported to a land of magic and mystery as they are treated to a beloved holiday classic they know and love.

Ballet Des Moines presents its 16th annual production of The Nutcracker, December 8-10, 2017 at Hoyt Sherman Place. Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is one of the most famous ballets the world has ever known, and is the cornerstone of ballet companies around the world. Ballet Des Moines’ adaptation is choreographed by Artistic Director Serkan Usta and Ballet Mistress Lori Grooters.  You will be visually delighted by their resident professional company and more than 300 local student dancers.

Single tickets to one of the five performances to The Nutcracker can be purchased at the Hoyt Sherman Place box office or through Ticketmaster.

Experience the adventures of a girl named Clara as she journeys to a distant land where a prince battles mischievous mice, flowers waltz and a Sugar Plum Fairy delights children of every age.

Iowa Dance Theatre presents their 21st performance of The Nutcracker ballet. The ballet is choreographed and directed by a team of dance professionals from Des Moines and the surrounding area.  This year, there are over 240 dancers (including my daughter:) from approximately 36 dance studios from throughout central Iowa participating in the ballet. Guest artists will be Katherine Eppink as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Anders Southerland as the Cavalier and their Artistic Team consists of Elizabeth Adams, Janice Baker, and Ami Yaro.

Dance Theatre of Iowa’s The Nutrcracker Performance Dates & Times:

December 16th at 2:00 and 7:00 pm
December 17th at 2:00 pm

Sugar Plum Fairy Tea Parties are scheduled at 12:30 pm on December 16 and 17, this is a fun event before the matinee shows. Tickets to the Tea are $15 and can be purchased at the Des Moines Civic Center Ticket Office.

Iowa State Center’s production of The Nutcracker Ballet

The Nutcracker Ballet tells the story of a young girl, a heroic prince, and the fantastic dream they share. From the opening party scene to the last tinkling notes of Tchaikovsky’s famous score, a festive holiday spirit permeates the whole performance.

This classic holiday fairy tale has come alive on stage at Stephens Auditorium each December for 37 years. This annual Iowa State Center production features choreography by Robert Thomas and Miyoko Kato Thomas of the Dancenter (Ames); over 200 local dancers from surrounding central Iowa communities; and principal dancers performing the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.

Saturday, December 9th at 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm
Sunday, December 10th at 1:30 pm

 There will be a Tea with Clara and the Mouse King on December 9th at 4:00 pm. Tickets to the tea are $7 per person.
