Veteran’s Day gives us an opportunity to say thank you to all the men and women who have fought to protect America’s freedom! And, if you are a veteran, you can enjoy discounts at a few local attractions, in Des Moines. Local Ceremonies and Events
Friday, November 10th, 2017 – Panel Discussion at 8:45 am and Assembly at 10:00 am; Perry Performing Arts Center, Perry
The 19th annual Perry Community High School Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Friday, November 10th this year. A cooperative effort between Bluejay Congress, the Perry Student Activities Department, the Perry Historical Commission, and the local Perry chapters of the American Legion and the VFW.
Saturday, November 11th, 2017 – 8:00 am; Iowa Veterans Cemetery (Interstate 80 at exit 113, Van Meter)
A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Spectra Venue Management invites you to join them once again for this year’s program, which honors and remembers the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces.

The Iowa Military Veterans Band concludes its 2017 concert series with a “Star Spangled Salute to Veterans” at their traditional Veterans Day Concert at the Des Moines Civic Center. Join them for this FREE concert to salute veterans.
Friday, November 17th, 2017 – 9:00 am to 12:00 noon; Iowa State Capitol, Vietnam Memorial, Des Moines
Wreaths will be laid at the Korean War Memorial and Vietnam War monuments and the Marine Corps League will perform the ceremonial act of a 3-volley salute followed by Taps.
Veterans receive FREE admission on Veteran’s Day (Saturday, November 11th, 2017) from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The museum will be open on Veteran’s Day (Saturday, November 11th, 2017) from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Admission is always FREE.
All military veterans and their immediate families are entitled to $2 off general admission on Veteran’s Day at the Science Center of Iowa.
The museum will be open 9:00 am to 4:30 pm on Veteran’s Day. While you’re there you can check out their Iowa and the Civil War and Iowa and the Great War exhibits. Admission to the State Historical Museum of Iowa is always FREE.
