They’ll be jumping for joy when they learn that they have a “no-school” day coming up in October!  This is a great time to take advantage of those days out of school and plan a special outing. Monday, October 8th – Columbus Day

Geisler Farm

Geisler Farms will be open for business and ripe for fall picking on Columbus Day from 1:00 to 6:00 pm.  Explore the Maze and Hayride for $8.00 or the Fun Zone and Hayride for $5.00. Kids 2 and younger are admitted FREE.

Howell’s Pumpkin Patch

Enjoy a horse drawn wagon ride to the pumpkin patch at Howell’s on October 7th and 8th. They are open 10:00 am to 6:00 pm daily and admission (24 Months an older) is $11.00 per person.

SkyZone

Come out to play on a day off school at SkyZone in Grimes.  They will host Open Jump from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 pm on Columbus Day.

Friday FunDay

Join the Clubhouse at the Playhouse Gang for Friday Funday as they dramatize a favorite story using their imaginations and the costume pieces and props they find in their Magic Trunk. This month’s featured story is “The Ants and the Grasshopper”.  Admission is $6, and shows are at 9:30 am, 10:45 am and 1:30 pm.

The Pumpkin Ranch

Night Eyes

Babysitting Clinic

Hosted by Urbandale Parks and Recreation this Babysitting Clinic for ages 10 and up is a great way to spend a day off of school. Participants will learn about the responsibilities of a babysitter, what employers expect, and how to care for infants and toddlers. There will also be guest speakers teaching on the subjects of age appropriate toys and activities, safety, and basic first aid and rescue breathing.

Hooray for Halloween

Cap off your day off of school with a a spooktacular night! Children ages 2 to 12 should dress in their favorite costumes and bring a sack for trick or treat candy! You will make Halloween crafts, decorate cookies and play games!

Come out to play on a day off school at Get Air in Urbandale.  They host Open Jump from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm on Mondays.

Family Workshops

Insect-eating plants, oh my! Kids can learn about carnivorous plants and their bizarre adaptations for survival on their day off from school. They’ll plant and decorate their own spooky terrarium to take home.

Burn off some energy on that day off at Climb Iowa.  They’re open 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Haunted House

Enter if you dare but be prepared to be scared at the Waukee Park Board’s annual Haunted House. This haunted house is not suggested for young children.  It will be open from 7:00 to 10:00 pm and admission in $5 (save $1 with THREE non-perishable donations for the Waukee Area Christian Food Pantry).

Friday, November 2nd

Holiday Boutique

Take in a movie for your day off fun.  Disney’s The Nutcracker And The Four Realms will open in theaters today. Of course movies are cheaper when you see them earlier in the day or go during “Twilight” between 4:00 and 5:00 pm, when ticket prices are $5.99 for both kids and adults.

Wrap up your day off by cheering on the Iowa Wolves during their 2018-19 home opener. They will take on the Salt Lake City Stars with tip off at 7:00 pm.
