Book Nook: 5 Story Times to Check out This Fall in Des Moines

Gather up the kiddos and let the reading begin! Story time can add a fun plot twist to your usual eat-sleep-play routine. And, with the cooler autumn months ahead of us, it’s always good to have some great indoor options for cold or rainy days. Here are five spots where you can head for your book fix this fall in Des Moines!

Altoona Public Library

This STEAM storytime, Story Explorers, presents story topics and then lets preschoolers dive into hands-on activities, to further explore the concepts. Parents play an active role in this storytime, and things often get a little messy! Story Explorers is offered weekly on Wednesday mornings, through the end of October, at 10:00 am.

Forest Avenue Library

The Des Moines Public Library recentlylaunched a bilingual storytime program for families. This story hour features stories, rhymes, and songs in both English and Spanish, as well as crafts. Activities also embrace Latino cultural diversity. Bilingual storytimes are currently offered at the Forest Avenue library Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Saturdays at 10:15 am.

Plot Twist Bookstore

Ankeny’s newest literary gem gives moms and dads the chance to browse while the kiddos hear books come alive. Stop by Plot Twist Bookstore on Wednesday mornings for their FREE weekly Story Time.  They start reading at 10:30 am and all ages are welcome to attend.

Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge

West Des Moines Parks and Recreation invites you to enjoy story hour with a staff naturalist.  Bring a lunch and share nature, books stories and games at the Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge.  FREE story times are scheduled for Thursdays, October 6-27, 2016 at 12:00 noon.
