Santa arrives at Bass Pro Shops in Altoona on November 11th at 5:00 pm. They will have a magical tree lighting, unveil Santa’s Wonderland®, carolers and more!

Light Up a Child’s Life® at Jolly Holiday Lights, a great holiday tradition! Bundle up the family and enjoy a 2.5 mile ride through magical light displays. 100% of admission fees go directly to Make-A-Wish® Iowa!
Jolly Holiday Lights is a drive-through holiday light display that is annually set up by Make-A-Wish Iowa in Des Moines.
Don’t forget to get your picture taken with Santa ($10) and enjoy a cookie and cocoa at Santa’s Wish Shop! The gift shop, located at the end of the route, has snacks, Santa and small gift items. All proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Iowa.

Going stir-crazy at home? Need a place to get out with the little ones? Well, here’s something for you! The Grimes Park and Recreation Department sponsors a weekly Bounce and Play Time for young children and their parent/guardian at the Grimes Community Complex.
This program provides a place for parents to bring their children to play in a safe and fun environment, and it’s a great way to make new friends! This is not a structured play group, but rather an open space for kids to move around, play games, laugh, have fun and burn off some energy! We provide the space; you provide the fun and supervision! Since this is a new community program, parents are encouraged to bring a toy, game or craft project to share.
PLEASE NOTE: this is not a drop off program; all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Families can go between the Rooms 201, 203, and the gym. All Ages in the Gym, Ages 10 and under recommended only for Room 203 with the Little Tykes equipment.
The Winter Farmers’ Market is a perfect opportunity to stock up for holiday meals, parties, and gift giving with more than 130 vendors. Farmers will be selling a variety of locally raised products including eggs, beef, pork, duck, turkeys, holiday hams, and a variety of late season and greenhouse produce. Shoppers can also expect to find an abundance of fresh handmade products including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, wine, cheese, noodles, breads, pies and cinnamon rolls. In addition, poinsettias, fresh cut Christmas trees, wreaths, handmade holiday ornaments and home decorations will be available.

Looking to inspire your little ones imagination and get them moving? Join us at Pioneer Columbus Community Center for the “Imagination Playschool”.
Imagination Playschool allows kids 7 and under the chance to make new friends and play on all kinds of equipment: climbing tower, imagination playground, big wheels, play houses, tumbling mats, and gymnastics.
We also have a bounce house on Friday only.

Kids four and under are invited for stories, songs, rhymes and dance. Cost is $1.50 and Imagination Playschool is included.

Want to get your little one out of the house to play? Come and play with us inside this winter! This program provides a place for care givers to bring their children to play in a safe and fun environment, and it’s a great way to make new friends! This is not a structured play group, but rather an open space for kids to move around, play, laugh, and have fun! We provide the activities and care givers provide the supervision. Care givers are required to stay. For ages 2 and up, 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Interactive Theatre Shows for Children Ages 4-6
Great for preschools, child care centers, kindergarten classes, and families. Show times are 9:30, 10:45, and 1:30 Friday.
Join the Clubhouse at the Playhouse Gang each month as they dramatize a favorite story using their imaginations and the costume pieces and props they find in their Magic Trunk. A new story is presented each month, October through May. Children learn the Clubhouse pledge and secret handshake, and listen for the word of the day.

What happens when a little boy meets a poetry and song-loving dragon who doesn’t like to fight? They work together with the local Knight in Shining Armor to convince the rest of the town to accept the dragon.
October 27 – The Little Red Hen
The Little Red Hen has to do all the work while the other animals are sleeping and playing. No one will help her bake the bread. What will happen when it’s time to eat the bread?
November 17 – The Frog Princess
The spoiled princess promises to kiss the frog if he retrieves her ball from the pond. What happens when she doesn’t keep her promise?
December 15 – The Elves and the Shoemaker
The shoemaker and his wife have nothing left to eat but two crusts of bread, and nothing to make shoes with but one piece of leather. See what happens when some kindly elves make the holiday season magical.
January 12 – The Three Little Pigs
Once upon a time, there was a pig who loved to eat, a pig who loved to sing and dance, and a bossy older sister with mad construction skills. Throw in one tired mama pig and a Big Bad Wolf and let the fun begin!
February 12 – The Mitten
In this Clubhouse at the Playhouse favorite, a young child drops his mitten in the snow and does not realize it is missing. As woodland creatures seek warmth inside the mitten, it magically grows and grows!
March 2 – Pinocchio
Pinocchio wants more than anything to be a real boy, but he is only a puppet made of wood. Will he listen to his father, and tell the truth? Who ‘nose’?
April 6 – Sleeping Beauty
What do you do if you’re a prince and you happen upon a sleeping princess? How on Earth do you wake her up? Tap dance on her bed, yell in her ear, or pour ice water over her head?
Bring your baby and sing songs, play games, and socialize with other babies and their caregivers. Recommended for birth through 18 months. No registration required.
