Illumifest @ West Des Moines City School Campus

Light Up West Des Moines at Illumifest, A Fall Festival of Light, which offers a variety of activities and events for people of all ages!  The inflatables and games will open Saturday afternoon and run throughout the afternoon and evening, as well as a wide variety of food stands.  There will also be FREE lantern making. a “Royal Promenade” around the Pond, featuring Royal characters from Little Princess Parties, a FREE outdoor movie – “Coco” and fireworks to close out the evening.

Log Cabin Days Festival @ Warren County Fairgrounds

The 2018 Log Cabin Festival’s theme is “Sing a Song of Warren County” and will be held at the Warren County Fairgrounds. Parade, entertainment, home cooked meals, a classic car show, antiques, quilts, crafts, a pie and cake auction, kids activities and more.

Victorian Funeral @ Living History Farms

Open 9am-4pm, Funeral procession begins at 1 pm

In 1875, the funeral was a pageant of honored traditions! Families gathered to find joy in a public celebration of a life well lived. At 1:00, join with historic interpreters as they celebrate the life and honor the death of a fictional Walnut Hill resident with a re-created funeral. Visit the Tangen home, prepared with a period style coffin and funeral drapery. Walk in the funeral procession led by a horse-drawn hearse to New Hope Cemetery for a moving memorial service.

Event activities are included with regular admission to Living History Farms.

Pumpkin Express Train @ Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad

Dress in your Halloween costume and take the family on this one hour and thirty minute journey (across our 156′ tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge, and the Des Moines River Bridge) to the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad’s pumpkin patch. Once at the patch, children will be able to select their perfect pumpkin before returning to town. On the return trip, children will receive an activity booklet and a treat.

Tickets are $17 per person (ages 2 and up) and may be purchased by calling 1-800-626-0319, or by visiting www.bsvrr.com. The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad is a division of the Iowa Railroad Historical Society, a non-profit operating railroad museum.

Timber, Tails, & Twilight @ Brenton Arboretum

An age-appropriately spooky evening for all to enjoy! Learn about “creepy” creatures, take a “haunted” walk through the trees, and make a tasty caramel apple snack! Costumes are strongly encouraged for all, all ages welcome!
Walks will start at the North end of the parking lot on the hour at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00.
Creepy Critter explorations will start in the Vista Room on the half hour at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30.
Snack Station will be open all evening, self-serve.

  • Thursdays: Double Treats and Athletes – Get twice as many treats, dress up as your favorite athlete, and meet a local mascot!
  • Fridays: Doggone Scary – bring your furry friend along (in costume!) for trick-or-treating. Get treats for your dog at the historic Vet Clinic in our 1875 Town, sponsored by Just Paws.
  • Saturdays: Fairytales and Super Heroes – meet your favorite characters and dress up in your best superhero and fairytale costumes.
  • Sundays: Farmer & Friends – Dress up as an animal on the farm, a farmer, or Victorian style like a person in the past! Wear your best “Living History Farms” themed costume for trick-or-treating, and stop by our petting zoo to see some farm animals!

Tickets required for everyone 2 years and older. Children 1 and under are free.

We will decorate pumpkins and enjoy a ride on the “Witch’s Wagon” around the Lake. You will be treated to Count Dracula’s “blood” while making your own Skeleton S’mores! is a fun fairy dust filled morning for little princesses, princes and their chaperones. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and take photos with princesses, enjoy breakfast provided by Panera Bread, participate in various games and activities, bid on silent auction items, and much more.

The Little Mermaid will be in the photo booth and we have eight confirmed Storybook Princesses that will be in attendance, they are: Chinese princess; Amulet Princess; Arabian Princess; Scottish Princess; Tinkerbell; Rapunzel; Ice Princess Snow Queen

Spirits in the Gardens @ Reiman Gardens

SEE AMAZINGLY DETAILED LIT JACK-O-LANTERNS! A MUST-SEE!

All are welcome to join in the spooky fun by attending in costume. Trick or treat at Reiman Gardens and do activities. Join us for storytelling and more. Come dressed in costume and a bag to collect candy. Then stay afterwards to see an astounding display of 650 carved pumpkins lit against the evening sky.
