Stand Up Paddleboard with the Naturalist @ Gray's Lake

Join the Des Moines Environmental Educator for an evening paddle on Gray’s Lake to learn more about the history of the lake, how it functions and the wildlife that lives there. Starting at 5:30 from the peninsula next to the swimming beach, we will paddle in search of wildlife that lives in and around the lake and discuss what we find along the way. This is registration for the June 18th paddle. There will other SUP’s on June 27, July 17, July 23, Aug. 13, and Aug. 27. Registration for this event is limited and includes the stand-up board and gear. The fee is $10. All ages welcome. If you have your own board and gear feel free to join us.

Free Flicks @ Des Moines Parks

Free Flicks is a summer-long series of outdoor movies sponsored by UnityPoint Health-Des Moines. The films will be shown on a 25-foot portable screen and will begin after sunset around 9:00 p.m. Admission is free, blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. People are free to bring their own snacks as concessions will not be provided for purchase.

Movies will not take place in the event of rain. Please continue to check our Facebook and Twitter for updates. Remember, you can know before you go, with our text messaging notification service.

Yoga in the Park @ Clare and Miles Mills Rose Garden

Des Moines Parks and Recreation and UnityPoint Health-Des Moines invite you to enjoy your Saturday mornings by participating in a free weekly yoga session. Free outdoor yoga classes start June 1 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Clare and Miles Mills Rose Garden in Greenwood-Ashworth Park. Classes run every Saturday from June 1 to September 30.

The classes, taught by volunteer instructors from around the Metro Area, are perfect for all skill levels, from curious beginner to advanced yogi. You are encouraged to bring a mat or a towel as well as some water and clothes you can move in. No registration for the class is required, just show up ready to relax, release and enjoy.  For ages 8+.

There are 31 locations for contestants to find, they must document their visit with a photo and share it on any or all of our social media networks (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) with the official contest hashtag #tourdmparks.  Participants who visit the most spots are then eligible to compete to win a grand prize of $1,000 CASH courtesy of the Friends of Des Moines Parks.
