All-State Barn Tour in Iowa @ Multiple Locations

It’s the Iowa Barn Foundation’s annual FREE, self-guided tour of restored historic barns across the state. The All-State Barn Tour has been organized to encourage barn preservation in Iowa, to teach young people about Iowa’s rich agricultural heritage, and to renew pride in this heritage.  The tour is arranged so that you can go from barn to barn on your own, as time and distances permit. Barns are open from 8:30am-5:30pm each day.

Iowa Latino Heritage Festival @ Western Gateway Park

The Latino Heritage Festival is the largest Latino Festival in the state, as well as the largest ethnic event in the state. The Festival offers traditional foods, authentic arts, crafts, cultural exhibitors, educational areas, entertainment and a Saturday night street dance.

The festival features a children’s area.  The activities in the childrens area help to accomplish a cultural exchange and affirmation that is not experienced by most children in school.  Festival attendees each year state that they value the family-friendly environment of the festival.  Activities ranging from jumping castles to pinata making.  The vision of providing hands on educational activities for children has guided the festival from the start.  This year there are more hands on children activities than ever.

Art on the Lake @ Copper Creek Lake Park

Art on the Lake is an art festival that is held at Copper Creek Lake Park along the Gay Lea Wilson Trail in Pleasant Hill, IA. The festival is a family friendly event that is free to attend and features music, food, kids’ crafts, and 50 to 75 artists. Art on the Lake promotes the arts in the community and supports artists throughout the year. To kick off and provide local awareness to the National Arts in Education Week, the second annual Art on the Lake Festival will be held on September 22, 2018.

White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow @ Iowa State Fairgrounds

“A gathering to bring down the walls of misunderstanding and to help mend the Sacred Hoop”. The goal of the White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow is to bring families of all races together, to bring down the walls of misunderstanding, to share a little of all heritages through drumming, music, dance, and story, and to understand that we are not that different.  This year’s event will be on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage at the Iowa State Fair Grounds.

Admission is FREE.

Illumifest @ West Des Moines City School Campus

Light Up West Des Moines at Illumifest, A Fall Festival of Light, which offers a variety of activities and events for people of all ages!  The inflatables and games will open Saturday afternoon and run throughout the afternoon and evening, as well as a wide variety of food stands.  There will also be FREE lantern making. a “Royal Promenade” around the Pond, featuring Royal characters from Little Princess Parties, a FREE outdoor movie – “Coco” and fireworks to close out the evening.

The Octagon Art Festival @ Mainstreet, Ames

In addition to enjoying the studios, you’ll see a much wider selection of the artists work, since it doesn’t have to all fit in a van, and great prices and specials too. There will be ten stops this year on the approximately 90-mile loop around the beautiful Des Moines River Valley.

Beaverdale Holiday Boutique @ Holy Trinity Catholic School

Come and start (or continue) a family holiday tradition at the Beaverdale Holiday Boutique! What started out as a craft show and bake sale to raise money for the school, has now turned into one of the most anticipated holiday events in the area. This family-friendly experience will have four floors of gifts and food for sale.

Over 100 artisans from all over Iowa will be selling traditional and contemporary designs. Shoppers will be able to purchase gifts for family and friends.

Mrs. Kringle’s Bakery will be open for you to buy your Thanksgiving and Christmas cookies. Mrs. Kringle’s elves will be selling her famous butter braids, pies, candies, breads and cookies. Get there early because they sell fast.

On Friday evening, appetizers and beverages will be available while you shop. On Saturday, the Café will be open for hungry shoppers to relax and eat delicious soups, sandwiches and desserts.

Art on the Prairie @ Downtown Perry

In November over 100 Iowa artists, musicians, poets, authors, and performers will gather in Perry’s downtown Cultural and Historic District to celebrate the arts with the annual Art on the Prairie.
