Des Moines Restaurant Week: An Opportunity 4 Family Dining

Once a year, Des Moines Restaurant Week offers diners a serious deal: one three-course dinner or two lunches for $25. You’ve likely waited for date night to enjoy such a leisurely meal, but if you tack on the cost of a sitter, your dinner just went from a discount to a premium. Why not bring the whole family to participating Restaurant Week eateries for a meal foodies of all ages will love? Get ready to indulge August 16– 25, 2019.

What is Des Moines Restaurant Week?

During Restaurant Week local restaurants offer special price fixed menus at participating restaurants. Two multi-course lunches or one three-course dinner.  Many of the restaurants allow you to also order from their traditional menus, but the Restaurant Week menu is the best bargain and opportunity to try new things. Chefs will prepare their favorites and may experiment with new dishes as well.  What a great opportunity to introduce your kiddos to some fine dining!

Which Restaurants are Participating and How Do I Choose?

With 38 participating restaurants, it is tough to choose. However, I bet there’s one or two you’ve been tempted to take your kids to.  Here are some tips for planning:

  • Visit the Des Moines Restaurant Week website where you’ll find a restaurant list.
  • Each restaurant listing includes a menu and location to help make your selection.
  • Dine in four participating restaurants and be eligible to win a three day trip to Miami.

Tips for the Best Restaurant Week Experience

  • Be sure to check out the menu and restrictions before you visit a restaurant.
  • If you have not visited a restaurant before, do a little research to determine if it is “kid-friendly”.
  • Ask friends and family for restaurant suggestions.
  • Be sure that you understand what’s included with the fixed price. It doesn’t include beverages, tip or tax.
  • Most restaurants offer fairly limited choices on the Restaurant Week menu. If you’re a picky eater, it might not be the best option for you. Even the best Restaurant Week restaurants tend to offer five or fewer choices for each course.
  • Follow the Des Moines Restaurant Week Facebook page where you can find up-to-date information from the restaurants and to participate in giveaways.
  • If you’re “on the go” the mobile app is great. You can easily search for restaurants by menu and location, including choosing one nearest you. Download it from the website.
  • You’ll want to make reservations to save on waiting time.
