The High Crest Family Music: The High Crest brings along the whole family for a very special performance full of songs you can sing along to and original songs they wrote themselves. You’ll love hearing the song “10 Foot Dragon,” all about a friend who causes some trouble…but only because he’s a dragon and that is just who he is. Cy-Hawk Night: Calling all football fans! Get ready for the big game with this energetic, united evening full of Cyclones and Hawkeyes. Wear your favorite colors with pride. Fruit Fun Story Time and Edible Exploration: Fall is harvest time! Celebrate this time of year at the library through fruit inspired stories and music followed by stations that open your taste buds to fruits from around the globe. Pumpkin Story Time and Decorating: Come join us for an evening of pumpkininspired stories, music and decorating. Every child will get his or her own miniature pumpkin to decorate and take home. Family Bedtime Stories: End the day as a family with books and bedtime fun! Join us for this 30-minite program in your pajamas and slippers. Bring sleepy time stuffed friends. Halloween Hop: Celebrate Halloween at the library with a costume dance party! We’ll pull out some of our favorite Halloween tunes along with treats and not so spooky fun. Insect Zoo: This time of year tends to give insects a bad rap. Join Iowa State bug experts to get up-close and personal with the exciting world of arthropods. Learn about the basics of the arthropod (insects, spiders, tarantulas, millipedes, centipedes, scorpions, etc.) form and function. The educational presentation will be followed by making an insect inspired art project. Due to the length and structure of the program and delicacy of the insects, this program is highly recommended for children ages preschool and older with an adult. Family Build: Builders of all ages are welcome as we turn our library community room into a world of its own! Various centers will be set up for different age groups so everyone in the family can create to their heart’s content. November 8 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Drop-in program.
Exploration Stations: Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to be little library explorers! This program invites you and your child to experience different stations that promote the five practices of early literacy: Read, Talk, Sing, Write, and Play! Activities include reading tents, felt boards, crafts, singing with rhymes, sensory bins, dramatic play, and writing activities. Siblings six and older are welcome to explore the library.
