Families with children of various ages will delight in making memories during our Thursday night programs! As a reminder, these programs are
free. Please register each person attending to ensure that we have plenty of supplies available. Go online, call, or stop in the library to register.

Description Dates/Times/Notes

Family Sing-Along: Explore music together in a relaxed and playful setting. This is a 30-minute educationally-based program taught by local instructor and guitarist, Denise Forney. Classes include exposure to a variety of early music concepts, singing, finger plays, dancing, fun props, instrument play, and tips to take home. January 31 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.

Art Night Out: Bring the whole family to enjoy a relaxing evening of making masterpieces of your own. Led by an expert art educator from the Des Moines Art Center. February 7 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Library Community Room Space limited. Registration required.

Storytime Yoga: Storytime Yoga is a full body experience building early literacy skills and healthy bodies at the same time! Featuring puppets, stories, songs, yoga poses and silly breathing exercises for beginner yogis of all ages. A mandala activity will follow along with herbal tea and juice station. Feel free to bring your own mat, but they are not required. February 14 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration required.

Daniel Tiger Neighborhood Party: Won’t you be, our guest? Join Daniel Tiger and Library staff for an evening of celebrating what it means to be a good neighbor and friend. Stories, music, activities, and healthy snacks. Daniel Tiger will make an appearance for high fives, hugs and photos. February 21 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration required.

Family Build: Builders of all ages are welcome as we turn our library community room into a world of its own! Various centers will be set up for different age groups so all in the family can create to their heart’s content. February 28 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.

Mundo Music: All ages and levels are invited to this movement class. Enjoy live music while learning how people around the world express themselves through international dance and sound. March 7 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.

Family Bedtime Stories: End the day as a family with books and bedtime fun! Join us for this 30-minute program in your pajamas and slippers with your favorite sleepy time friend or blanket. Program highlights include picture books, puppets, felt stories, finger plays, music, dancing, and bubbles galore. March 14 6:15 – 6:45 p.m. Story Time Room No registration required.

Stuffed Animal Jammy Dance and Sleepover: Bring your stuffed animal for a night of pajamafun with local children’s author, Rebecca Janni. Story time, games, music, and craft. Leave your stuffed animal overnight so you can see what happens at the library when the lights go out. Pajama attire encouraged but not required. EGGS-cellent Extravaganza: Spring is in the air! Join us and EGGs-plore through stories, music, crafts, games, and an indoor scavenger hunt. April 4 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Library Community Room Registration required.

Magnificent Monarchs: Library staff is teaming up with the Polk County Conservation to bring you a transformational evening of learning. Explore the life history of monarch butterflies, learn about their migration habits, and meet the library’s newest member, a caterpillar who will be released to one of our city parks when ready. An art station will be provided for the littles and after the program. April 18 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.

Make ‘n Take Mother’s Day Crafts: We will provide the supplies to create and some ideas to get you inspired. Make and take something truly from the heart for the mothers in your life! While supplies last. April 25 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.
