Let the kids stay up late this summer for a fun FREE outdoor movie. Kids can wear their PJs and you can bring chairs and blankets to view these family friendly flicks in comfort under the stars. Movies begin at dusk around 8:30 pm and FREE popcorn and other snacks are served at many of them. Here’s your complete guide to outdoor movies in Des Moines.
Movies Under the Stars is held on Friday nights in June and July in the Band Shell in Wagner Park. The movies begin at dusk. The movies are FREE and open to the public; bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

Free Flicks is a summer-long series of outdoor movies shown throughout the Des Moines area. The films will be shown on a 25-foot portable screen, and will begin after sunset around 9:00 p.m. Admission is FREE, blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. People are encouraged to bring their own snacks as concessions will not be provided.

Free Flicks will be at the Art Center on the first Thursday of each month. In partnership with Des Moines Parks and Recreation, the Art Center presents a series of eclectic and cinematic classics on the big screen. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and refreshments. All films begin at dusk; in case of rain, the film will be cancelled. Starlight Cinema Outdoor Movies will provide your family with unforgettable memories watching FREE family-friendly movies under the stars on our big screen at the Memorial Park Amphitheater. Bring blankets or lawn chairs. FREE popcorn is provided and drinks & candy are also available.

Summer Movie Night is presented by Warren County Conservation. They will be showing a fun, animal related movie on the side of the picnic pavilion at Annett Nature Center. Enjoy s’mores and snacks while watching the movie under the stars.

Friday Night Flicks will be shown outside of the Clive Aquatic Center and in Linnan Park. Bring your blankets, chairs, snacks and pajamas to watch a movie on an inflatable big screen. In the event of bad weather or wet grass, aquatic center movies will be shown indoors at the Clive Community Center. FREE popcorn while supplies last.

Movies in the Park, pack a lawn chair or a blanket and head to Urbandale for an outdoor movie in Lions Park and Jeff Harm Park by Webster Elementary. Doors open at 8:30 pm and the movie begins at 9:15 pm. In addition to the FREE movie, FREE popcorn and snow cones will be served. If there is inclement weather, the movies will be shown indoors.

Movies in the Park brings big screen movies under the big dipper to Centennial Park in Waukee. This FREE event is a great way to make memories with your family and neighbors while enjoying Hollywood’s biggest hits under the stars. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Fresh popcorn and drinks are sold by the Park Board.
