Celebrate Grandparents Day in Des Moines:
Send the crew off to Center Grove Orchard in Cambridge for some harvest fun. The Orchard opens for the season on September 8, 2018. Kids can play in the Farmyard, everyone can pick apples, shop at the Country Store and participate in a host of other activities. And, with any luck, they’ll use their purchases to bake something tasty to bring home to you;)
Bid farewell to your favorite lords and ladies and let them descend on the Renaissance Faire at Sleepy Hollow on September 8-9, 2018. The group will enjoy the mishmash of the Faire atmosphere. It’s a craft fair, it’s a time warp, it’s a showcase of the performing arts, it’s geek and “olde world” culture, it’s a costume party, and it’s just an all-around fun time.
Grandparents can feel like a kid again with a spin on the Heritage Carousel in Union Park. It’s FREE for them to ride all day on Grandparents Day! In addition to a ride on the carousel, grandparents can let their charges burn off some energy in the park itself. Pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it.
A nostalgic event which the entire family will enjoy, the Jamboree has over 100 antique dealers from across the Midwest displaying a wide array of antiques on September 9 from 8:00 to 4:00 pm. Hopefully your little “American Pickers” will score a treasure worthy of the “Antiques Road Show”.
Grandparents and grandkids can enjoy a friendly competition at the bowling alley during Warrior Lane’s Hero’s Day Bowling Party on September 9, 2018. These parties are a blast for all ages and feature glow-in-the-dark bowling, mom-approved music, food, and fun.
Reiman Gardens and the Iowa Quilters Guild will be hosting the annual Garden Quilt Show September 7-9, 2018. Craft loving grandparents and grandkids will love looking at the beautiful displays of garden-themed quilts created by talented Midwesterners.
