Pre-Party Planning

Making a Reservation

I called MB2 about a month before our chosen party date, left a message, and one of their Event Coordinators called me back to discuss all of the party details. The Event Coordinator was very polite and ran through all of the “rules” and what I could expect on the day of the birthday party. Once the party was booked, I received an email confirming everything we had discussed.

The Rules

All racers must be 48” tall and anyone under the age of 18 years old must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver.  Racers must also wear closed-toed shoes and MB2 Raceway operates on a pre-set schedule for their race times.  It’s highly encouraged that everyone arrives on time, so they will be allowed to race.

A friend of my son’s birthday is really close to his, so we celebrated both boys and split the cost of the party with his parents. In addition, due to the height restriction, this party is for older kids, my son was turning 10 and I don’t think I would want to host it for kids any younger.

Invitation

Every party package includes access to an MB2 specific Evite and Thank Yous.

Party Day

Activities

On the day of the party you will check in at the register and will be assigned a party host/hostess.  Once everyone arrives, you will be able to schedule your race time.  In hindsight, it would have been a good idea to think up a few activities to have on hand.  Since, we hadn’t thought about the pre-race “wait time” we ended up giving the boys some money to play games in the arcade.

Once we had everyone together and were ready to race, the boys were gathered up to enjoy a small snack and watch a brief safety video before they hit the gas.  They were also divided up into two groups of five and then were ushered over to the racetrack.

The track “host” helped the boys gear up, they wear a head sock and a helmet, and then he briefly instructed them on how to operate the go-cart.  Since, the races were limited to five drivers, the kids had plenty of driving space for each 9-lap race around the indoor track. The ¼ mile track has strategically placed bumpers so drivers learn to maneuver their karts while keeping their speed at a steady clip (the cars can be controlled remotely, so if kids are driving unsafely, the operators can slow their kart).

Once the first group finished, the next group went.  The races seemed to fly by.  The boys were pretty good at watching and cheering each other on. Of course, they had a blast driving the go-karts and we had several kiddos asking if they could go again.

Food & Drink

You are welcome to bring a birthday cake or cupcakes and drinks to the party. You can also bring a veggie/fruit platter and chips/dips if you would like. The Event Coordinator also offered to order additional food items (at an additional cost), including ordering pizza from Pizza Ranch for us.  We held the party on a Saturday at 2:00 pm and thought the included snack along with cake was enough for the afternoon.  After the boys were done racing, we went back to the party room and enjoyed some cake and the boys opened their gifts.

Favors

Medals for each racer are included in the party package.  We also provided some cute little trophies filled with M&Ms, but it’s not necessary.  The boys seemed really happy with the medals. MB2 wraps up the race time with a little medals ceremony and a picture on the “ winner’s podium”.  The Raceway also has party gift bags available for purchase.  If that is something you’re interested in be sure to mention it to the Event Coordinator.
