Men’s sports is not the only game in town. Did you know that we have a few semi-pro and amateur women’s sports teams here in Des Moines? Attending one of these teams’ games is a great way to introduce your kids to the world of female sports, where the games are just as fun and the athletes are just as competitive. All three of the teams’ listed below, start their seasons this spring and bonus; many of the games are inexpensive to attend and FREE for kids, making them a fun budget-friendly family outing.
As one of 100 teams competing in the Women’s Premier Soccer League, the Des Moines Menace women’s team kick it at Valley Stadium (and other locations), April through July. Single game tickets are $10 for ages 6 and older; FREE admission for ages 5 and younger. They also offer season tickets and a flex pack. If last season, where the team placed second in their region, is any indication, the Menace are geared up for a spectacular 2017 season, one that shouldn’t be missed!
The Iowa Force is a semi-professional basketball team playing in the Mid-West Region of the Women’s Basketball Blue Chip League. These extraordinary dunkers, who call the Iowa Center for Higher Education (Formerly AIB College of Business) home, play May 13-July 22nd. Home games are Saturday, May 13th and 20th and Saturday, June 24th. Single game tickets are $5 for Adults; $3 for 6 to 12 year olds; and $2 for fans wearing Force gear. Kids 5 & under; Seniors 62 & over; and all kids wearing their sports uniform get in FREE!
Playing at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines, The Iowa Crush season runs April to June. The Crush, which are part of the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL) have been playing in Des Moines for 11 years. The mission of the organization is to provide an opportunity for women to participate in a predominantly male sport at a high level of competition. Single game tickets are $10 for Adults; $5 for Students and Seniors; and Kids 7 and under get in FREE. Season passes are also available for $40. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or at any Crush event.
