Ticket Prices
Tickets range in price from $7.25/child or $7.50/general admission for a 2D matinee to $11.75/child or $15.00/general admission for an XD Real 3D weekend evening showing. Ticket prices will vary based on time of day, day of week and type of showing – whether 2D, XD, 3D, XD 3D.

- Tuesday is Discount Day (all tickets all show times; some restrictions apply): $5.50
- Early Bird Special (the first matinee of the day that starts before 1:00 pm; some restrictions apply): $6.75
The Cool Factor
We’ve been hearing good things about this new movie theatre in Altoona and have been wanting to check it out. We’ve also been wanting to see Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and we thought this would be a good time to check them both off the list. The Cinemark Altoona and XD Movie Theatre did not disappoint! Not sure I can say that about the movie.
If you are thinking about seeing a movie in Altoona, I highly recommend purchasing your tix early. Why you may ask? If you are picky about where you sit, all seating is reserved. This means you can’t just walk into the theatre and sit down. You choose your seat when you purchase your ticket. So, if you haven’t purchased your tickets before arriving at the Theatre, you’re stuck with what’s left.
And also, because word has spread my friend… these are the MOST COMFORTABLE seats in Des Moines! The recliners are GIGANTIC! They’re actually called Luxury Loungers and are electric powered! No flip handle here! They also feature a cup holder (of course) and a great foot rest. In addition to the comfy chairs, the aisles are nice and wide, so you’re not tripping over everyone to get to your seat. It’s an ideal place for taking the entire family or a date.
Without a doubt this is the nicest, most comfortable, most luxurious theatre in Des Moines right now. The Cinemark Altoona theatre opened in February and it won’t take long for the word to spread in Des Moines…that this is one popular movie theatre and rightfully so. As much as I love the other theaters in Des Moines (and I do) – the new Cinemark Altoona and XD Movie Theatre won our family over! I just wish it was closer to our house!
Perfect For
EVERYONE! It’s a great destination for a fun family outing or an entertaining date night. Of course there’s a downside to everything and the Cinemark Altoona and XD Movie Theatre is no exception. I have one kiddo that could probably sit for 10 hours straight and not move. I have another that can’t sit still for 10 minutes. Why do I share this little family tidbit with you? The one that can’t sit still, had a lot of flip flopping room in those big comfy chairs and was very fidgety. The electric powered foot rest also got a bit of a workout! Just a warning for those of you with squirmy kiddos.

The Theatre is located by Prairie Meadows and Adventureland. There are also a number of restaurants in the area.
