Moms are busy! We know it’s not easy to juggle all that life entails. So, we put together a list of Mommy & Me classes offered around the Des Moines metro. These multi-tasking classes let you get in some exercise, learn a new skill or simply have some fun with your little one in tow.

11 Mommy (or Daddy) & Me Classes in Des Moines:

Aqua Tots

30-minute Parent & Tot classes focus on water adjustment, safety skills and breath control and equips parents with proper holds and safe submersion techniques to help their child to become confident in the water. Classes are open to ages four to 30 months in West Des Moines.

Toddler Yoga and Baby and Me Yoga

The Family Tree offers several yoga classes and massage therapy. Parent child classes include fun songs, story time, meditation and relaxation as well as postures that strengthen the entire body with special emphasis on the pelvic floor & abdominal muscles.

Des Moines Art Center

The third Wednesday of the month, parents and guardians are encouraged to bring their infants (pre-walkers) to a Baby+Me Drop-In Tour led by an Art Center docent. While conversation is geared for adults, babies love the visual stimulation of artwork. Strollers and front-carrying baby carriers are permitted.

Des Moines Public Library System

The Des Moines Public Library offers a wealth of activities for families. Enjoy a weekly story time or guided play time together.

Hike It Baby

A non-profit organization dedicated to getting families out into nature with their children and inspiring a lifelong love of the outdoors. They host a wide variety of events such as hikes, urban strolls, and park and plays which are all hosted by volunteers. You will need to register on the website to find out information about local events in Des Moines.

Music Speaks

Music Speaks classes will get you exploring musical play with your child. They strive to build confidence, develop academic and motor skills as well as further communication skills in their developmentally focused music classes.

Living History Farms

Living History Farms offers a wide variety of family workshops. Classes are for pairs of adults and children (age 7-11) or pairs of adults and teens (age 12-17) and highlight a variety of techniques used in cooking, blacksmithing and explore family life in the past with hands-on activities.

Music Together

Music Together is offered by Songs & Signs LLC in Clive and Ankeny.  Mixed-age music classes foster a family-style learning environment that engages children at their own level, allowing them to vocalize, move, listen, observe and explore musical instruments.

Triad Gymnastics

This gym in Ankeny offer two parent and child classes Boys & Girls Bugaboos (Ages 12-24 months) and Boys & Girls WiggleBugs (Ages 2-3 years). Both classes focus on fun and ongoing skill development through movement, music, learning and laughter.

Waterbabies

Help your little one be water safe at one of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines’ Waterbabies classes.  Offered to kids six months to three years old, this is a water adjustment class that provides a special structured fun time for adults and infants.

Kindermusik

With the help of a trained instructor at Pied Piper Studios in Urbandale, families engage in a variety of creativity-building fun including singing, dancing and more. Classes focus on different development stages from newborn to age 7 including kids with English as a second language and children with developmental challenges.
