Whether you are looking for slender pumpkins or plump; sprawling farms or cozier ones; Central Iowa has what you seek. Pumpkin Patch Season is Mid-September through the end of October. Be sure to contact (or check out their social media or websites) the pumpkin patches and corn mazes before heading out to confirm hours and amenities. Many are small, family-run operations, and harvests and operating hours can fluctuate from week to week.
Pumpkin Patches & Corn Mazes Near Des Moines:
Allsup’s Pumpkinville and Corn Maze

Allsup’s Pumpkinville and Corn Maze features a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay rides and fun fall activities. Pumpkins are priced based on size and range from $1 to $30. The Mini Maze costs $1 per person and the Big Maze is $7 per person for anyone over 6 years old; Ages 3-6 are $1 and Ages 0-3 FREE. Groups Rates and Field Trips are also available. Pumpkinville is open September 16 through October 31, 2018; 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily.

Black’s Heritage Farm once again has several entertaining activities planned for this fall. In addition to their pumpkin patch, families can enjoy a trolley ride or kiddos can go on a pony ride and even get a little education in at their Farm History Learning Center. The fall festivities commence on September 22 and run through October 31, 2018 when they’re open daily 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Watch their Facebook Page for updates.
Frey’s Pumpkin Patch

Frey’s Pumpkin Patch will open for the season in mid-September. Find perfectly plump, fresh from the vine pumpkins in a real farm setting at Frey’s Pumpkin Patch. In addition to pumpkins they also have apples, Indian corn, popcorn, and gourds of all shapes and sizes. They are located 1-1/2 Miles South of Madrid on Highway 17 and they are open Monday through Friday 3:30 to 5:30 pm and weekends 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.
Geisler Farms – Growing Family Fun

Another farm that’s a down-home good time. Geisler Farms in Bondurant is open now through October 28, 2018; Saturdays and Sundays, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. At this farm they harvest pumpkins from their 10-acre field and move them to their patch for you to choose. You can also saunter through their corn maze. There’s no cost to visit the Pumpkin Patch. The Corn Maze, Fun Zone and Wagon Ride is $8.00 and the Fun Zone and Wagon Ride (2 and younger free) is $6.00.
Harvest Barn Marketplace

You don’t pick pumpkins from the patch here, you get them at the Barn where there’s plenty to pick from, along with everything else you need to decorate the house. For the kids there’s a corn maze, they can play in the corn bin or with the barnyard critters and more. Fall hours are September through October; Wednesdays to Saturdays 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sundays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Harvest Barn is CLOSED Mondays and Tuesdays.
Howell’s Pumpkin Patch

Howell’s Pumpkin Patch in Cumming is open September 9 through October 31, 2018 and at this farm you can pick your own pumpkin right off the vine. Take a wagon ride around this 800-acre farm, visit the goats, cows and chickens, and race through their corn maze. They are open 10:00 am to 6:00 pm daily and admission (24 Months an older) is $11.00 per person.

McCurdy’s bursts with pumpkins in the fall! In addition to picking your own gourd, they also have a 2-acre corn maze, hayrides, play area, corn pool, and all kinds of activities for the kids. They are open Saturdays 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sundays 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm from September 22 through October 28, 2018.
North River Corn Maze

Kids will love getting “lost” amid the towering stalks of corn in 21 acres of the two corn mazes at North River Corn Maze. They’ll also love the giant jumping pillow and other fun fall activities. Pumpkins aren’t “pickable” here, but you can pick one out, along with gourds and mums to bring home. They’re open for the season October 7 to October 31, 2018; Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm.
Pierce’s Pumpkin Patch

In business for 38 years, Pierce’s Pumpkin Patch works hard to put on a great event every fall. They grow over 145 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds from miniature to giant pumpkins. If all that wasn’t enough, they also host an amazing harvest festival each pumpkin season. Their Annual Pumpkin Festival will be October 13-14, 2018. The Pumpkin Ranch

With pony rides and a giant corn maze this convenient pumpkin picking spot is a great one to bring your little tykes for a festive fall outing. General admission to The Pumpkin Ranch is $9.50 per person on Saturdays and Sundays and $7.00 per person on Fridays. Children under two are FREE. They open for the season on September 21, 2018 and their hours are Fridays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; Saturdays 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sundays 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm.

Find homegrown pumpkins and gourds at TimberPine Nursery and Greenhouse in Earlham. TimberPine hosts PumpkinFest a fun family activity, which includes a Family Fun Zone and Hay rides. The price to ride the hayrack out to the pumpkin patch is $4.00 per person. Their Fun Zone is FREE. Pumpkinfest happens on weekends only October 6 through October 28, 2018. Hours are Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays 12:00 Noon to 4:00 pm.
Uncle Bill’s Farm
