May 1st

May 4th

Today is World Labyrinth Day! Walk with others in this moving meditation for world peace. Exploring Art with Friends will be hosting walking Labyrinths tours in Des Moines from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The tours are FREE, fun, and all are welcome! Visit their Facebook Event page for additional info.

Another fun outdoor event taking place today is the Living History Farms’ Kids Trail Run. This is a 5k race or 1-mile Fun Run that is perfect for both competitive and non-competitive runners, ages 12 and under of all ability levels.  The race course will take runners through 300 years of Iowa agricultural history.  Find registration information and a course map on Living History Farms’ website.

May 5th

MyDMPL Con is back for its second year! Don your costume and join other pop culture enthusiasts at Central Library for a family-friendly festival for all fandoms.  Find a schedule of events here.

Keep up the superhero theme today by attending CIWE’s Children’s Concert: Heroes. The Central Iowa Wind Ensemble concludes their season with their popular Children’s Concert Series at the Scottish Rite Consistory Auditorium. You will be whisked away by action packed songs featuring favorite super heroes and touched by pieces honoring local heroes in our own community.

May 10th

Unwind after a long week at Food Truck Friday in Clive. Jump on the Greenbelt Trail and make your way to Campbell Park to enjoy music, food, and fun. The weekly event hosted by Clive Parks and Recreation kicks off today with music by Damon Dotson.

May 17th

Reiman Gardens in Ames will be celebrating National Public Gardens Day today with FREE Admission!  This is a great opportunity to check out all the May flowers.

May 18th

You are invited to AbracaDAZZLE: An Evening of Magic! supporting Children’s Cancer Connection.  The event is held at Hoyt Sherman Place and tickets can be purchased on their website.

May 22nd

Enjoy stories, songs, and something sweet at Over the Top Ice Cream in Pleasant Hill. This Sweet Storytime is for all ages and is hosted by the Altoona Public Library.

May 24th

The unofficial summer movie blockbuster season kicks off in cinemas this month.  The live action version of Disney’s Aladdin will be in Des Moines theatres today.
