Altoona Campus

The Altoona Campus offers a wide variety of swim programs, classes, and certification year round at their indoor pool. Morning and evening swimming lessons are held at the facility for babies to adults. They also offer a Junior Lifeguard course and “elite” swim classes for kids that are looking to improve their swimming skills beyond the basics. To register visit their website.
Aqua Tots

Aqua Tots provides small group swim lessons at their West Des Moines swim school. They offer swim classes for babies, toddlers, infants, kids, swim team, adults, and children with special needs. They have eight swim levels which gives children a platform to grow and develop their swimming skills. Each child will be assessed to determine their swimming proficiency and to provide swimming lessons for their specific skill level. You can register three ways: via phone, on-line or at their facility.
Prairie Life Fitness

Guided by professional swim instructors, tykes ages three and up can learn how to breathe, kick, and cruise through the water — all in a beautiful indoor pool at Prairie Life Fitness Center. Youth Swimming Lessons are offered in seven different levels plus Waterbabies and Lifeguard Training. You do not need to be a member to take advantage of their aquatics program. Non-members pay an extra $5 to register.
Summit Pool

Summit Pool is managed by the Johnston Community School District and they offer introductory swim lessons to preschoolers; parent tot classes; six levels of group lessons and competitive swimming opportunities. Check their website for a swimming lessons schedule and registration information.
Urbandale Public Swimming Pool

Urbandale Parks and Recreation holds eight-week sessions of swimming lessons in the morning and evenings at the Urbandale Public Swimming Pool. American Red Cross group lessons are offered for parent and child, pre-school and Learn to Swim lessons. They also offer Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor training, as well as, SCUBA and snorkeling classes. Register for lessons by one of three ways: on-line, by phone, or drop off a completed registration form with payment at the Urbandale Pool or the Urbandale Parks and Recreation office.
YMCA

Des Moines area YMCAs offer group and private swim lessons as an affordable option and there are several facilities to choose from. The instruction program includes tots lessons for kids 6 months to 5 years of age, as well as stroke clinics for ages 6 to 14 years of age. A few of the local Ys also offer competitive swim team. You can register on-line for swim lessons at all YMCA branches. Lessons are offered at Ankeny, Grubb, Indianola, Wellmark, South Suburban, Walnut Creek, Waukee and the YMCA Healthy Living Center.
