9 Places to Wiggle Out Winter in Des Moines

Kids have to play – it’s one thing that parents know for sure. And, especially in the winter months, it’s hard to keep kids entertained when cooler temps prevent them from spending tons of time outside. Want to keep them boredom-free this winter? We’ve rounded up a list of indoor places to wear them out. Here are some of our favorite indoor play places in the Des Moines metro.

Here’s nine places where kids can wiggle out winter in Des Moines:   

1. 1. 1. Des Moines Children’s Museum – Located in Valley West Mall, the Des Moines Children’s Museum is a great place where you can let the kids loose this winter where they can play, experiment, be creative, and explore without you having to say “no” or “don’t touch that.” 
      2. Get Air Des Moines – This trampoline park offers large areas for jumping, foam pits, and a dodgeball court. They also have a special section in their “Kiddie Court” set aside for kiddos under 46”. 
      3. Hop-A-Lot Indoors – Race, jump, climb and bounce away cabin fever at Hop-A-Lot. And, coming soon in 2021, they’ll be introducing bumper cars!  Hop-A-Lot Indoors is located in Merle Hay Mall near the food court.
      4. Kids Warrior Gym – Does your child watch “American Ninja Warrior”? Have they ever thought, “I could totally do that!”? Now they have a chance to put their skills to the test. Take your child to Kids Warrior Gym in Urbandale and let them burn some energy, have fun, and learn how to master the elements.
      5. Pump It Up – Open jump times welcome kiddos of all ages to hop around the giant bounce houses, which feature slides, climbing and obstacles. Watch their calendar for Open Jumps, Glow Jumps, Parents’ Night Out and other special events.
      6. Science Center of Iowa – This museum has something for everyone in the family including active and engaging areas throughout the museum where even mom and dad can play.
      7. Sky Zone – Who doesn’t love massive trampolines? If your kids love to jump, Sky Zone will send them soaring.  Located in Grimes the facility features a gigantic trampoline area for jumping and doing tricks, a jumping pit, basketball hoops and dodge ball areas. 
      8. The PlayGround For Kids – The Playground for Kids combines fun and fitness.  They have two rooms that house five inflatables and a ginormous play room that features an enormous tree house for kids to play on. 
      9. Urban Air Adventure Park – Race, jump, climb and bounce away cabin fever at Urban Air. From the climbing walls to the warrior obstacle course, there are plenty of ways for kids to be active.
