Play, Grow, Learn! is an opportunity for you to use the Imagination Station to explore early literacy tips and books, play with others, and develop early literacy skills using Forest Avenue Library’s space and toys. This is an unsupervised, drop-in playtime where parents and caregivers are encouraged to interact with their children. Many items will be available for free exploration and play.

Thursday Night Fun @ Clive Public Library

As a reminder, these programs are free and pre-registration is necessary as indicated below. Family Build: Builders of all ages are welcome as we turn our library community room into a world of its own! Various centers will be set up for different age groups so everyone in the family can create to their heart’s content. November 14 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. No registration required.

Frozen Fiesta: Do you adore a little snowman who loves to give warm hugs? Are you excited for the new movie to come out? We are too! Make an Olaf craft hat, sip on hot cocoa, and meet Olaf’s favorite princesses — Anna and Elsa of course. Feel free to dress for the royal occasion. November 21 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. Registration required.

Zoo Show and Tell: Join the Blank Park Zoo for a little hands-on learning about some of their animals. Everyone in your family will get a chance to meet different animals and learn about their important role in the circle of life on Earth. December 5 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.

STEM Bedtime Stories: End the day as a family with books and bedtime fun all related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Pajamas, slippers, and favorite bedtime friends and blankets are welcome. Program highlights include: picture books, puppets, felt stories, music, dancing, bubbles, and a STEM activity. December 12 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration for each child required.

Winter Wonderland: Celebrate the Winter Solstice Season as we turn the library into a space of wonder through stories, music, discovery stations, and a warm drink station. December 19 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration for each child required.

Family Bingo: Great fun for the whole family. We will have themed bingo cards for the younger children and traditional bingo cards for everyone else. Play to win, ‘cause everyone wins! Complimentary popcorn and drinks will be provided. December 26 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration for each attendee required.

Jumbo Game Night: This is a traditional family gaming activity with a giant twist! Jumbo game stations will be set up in our library community room along with complimentary popcorn and drinks. January 9 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.

Pete the Cat Party: Join Pete the Cat and library staff for a groovy evening filled with stories, music, and “cat”errific activities, and a sweet treat. Pete the Cat will be available for photos too! January 16 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration for each child required.

Stretches and Stories: Bring the whole family for a 30-minute Yoga story time led by a local Yoga instructor. Enjoy some of your favorite children’s books while stretching into fun and silly poses. Literacy exposure, physical exercise, and giggles to end the day off great! Please bring a mat or a towel for each participating member of your family and feel free to come in your cozy pajamas. Mundo Music: All ages and levels are invited to this music and movement class that takes you to different areas of the globe to learn how people around the world express themselves. Taught by a local couple who are experienced music and dance educators. Come in comfortable clothing, like pajamas! January 30 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.

Read ’n Romp: Are you getting tired of winter? Need something new to do that keeps you inside and warm? Come to the library for a safe and cozy place to let your kids get the winter wiggles out and read together. This program features a variety of indoor movement activities and a book nook in our community room in lieu of our regular story times. Adults need to accompany their children at all times. Older siblings 6 and older are welcome to do an art project in the teen room. February 6, February 13* 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. *More Read ‘n Romp dates (see page 9). African Culture Night: Bring the whole family for an exciting night that celebrates culture and traditions of the African Continent. Story time and music followed by exploration stations that involve all the senses such as a taste testing, an art project, language, and more! February 20 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration for each attendee required.

Bear Track Tales: Follow Dewey Bear’s tracks through an interactive, indoor story walk. Each child will receive a story time mini prize to take home. Limit one per child.
