Kids Create Classes @ Urbandale Parks

Fairy Camp
This fun art camp is all about FAIRIES! Students will create a beautiful mixed media painting, play games, create a fabulous jeweled wand, and watch Tinkerbell while enjoying theater style snacks. Expect your child to create, play, learn, and relax during this magical camp. Instructor: Elizabeth Lyons. *Please send your student with a peanut free sack lunch.

Critter Class
This exciting class is half art, half animals! Students will create a fabulous mixed media artwork, meet and learn about a variety of small animals, play games, and enjoy a snack. ¡Los Cuentos! Bilingual Story Time @ Clive Public Library

Ages 5 and younger (with an adult, siblings welcome)

Begins September 9 and runs for nine weeks.

Early exposure to multiple languages is beneficial to developing brains and early literacy. Native and non-native Spanish speaking children will enjoy this 30-minute story time which uses both English and Spanish to present books, rhymes and songs along with puppets, finger plays, and bubble fun.

Books & Babies @ Waukee Public Library

This is a parenting play group for little ones newborn to three years old, along with older siblings. Come gather to celebrate milestones and accomplishments, share concerns, ask questions, and support one another in a casual, fun, non-judgmental environment. Little ones are given a safe place to interact with each other, books, and discovery toys. Special guests to be announced. Led by local childbirth and postpartum educator, Amy Brooks-Murphy.

Public Tour @ The World Food Prize Hall of Laureates

THE WORLD FOOD PRIZE HALL OF LAUREATES tells a story in every room – from the building’s rich history as the Des Moines public library, to the Foundation’s celebrated agricultural and humanitarian pioneers there is something for every visitor.

Built in 1903, this century-old building has been restored into a museum that celebrates those who have dedicated their lives to fighting hunger around the world. The Hall of Laureates is a beautiful space of learning and collaboration, and we welcome you to visit.

The Hall is open to the public on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Admission is free of charge, and visitors have the opportunity to take a guided tour or explore the building on their own. Private and group tours are also available.

Tuesdays:
Guided tours at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes early

Saturdays:
9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
There are no guided tours on Saturdays. Docents are stationed in the building to provide information and education.

The Hall of Laureates is closed during all federal holiday weekends, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving week and Christmas. The Hall of Laureates is also closed during World Food Prize Week.
