Going stir-crazy at home? Need a place to get out with the little ones? Well, here’s something for you! The Grimes Park and Recreation Department sponsors a weekly Bounce and Play Time for young children and their parent/guardian at the Grimes Community Complex.

This program provides a place for parents to bring their children to play in a safe and fun environment, and it’s a great way to make new friends! This is not a structured play group, but rather an open space for kids to move around, play games, laugh, have fun and burn off some energy! We provide the space; you provide the fun and supervision! Since this is a new community program, parents are encouraged to bring a toy, game or craft project to share.

PLEASE NOTE: this is not a drop off program; all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Families can go between the Rooms 201, 203, and the gym. All Ages in the Gym, Ages 10 and under recommended only for Room 203 with the Little Tykes equipment.

Tennis shoes are recommended. And finally, every attendee must have a signed waiver before playing in the showroom. (Multiple kids from the same family can be included on one waiver.) Consult our showroom rules for all the details.

Bunny’s Helpful Hints

Evening Line Closures during high volume times: Please keep in mind that the Mr. Bunny visits with guests until closing time. That does not always mean that the line stays open until that time. During high volume days we must close the line to new visitors up to ½ hour before closing time.  This ensures that everyone in the current line will get a chance to visit prior to closing.

If it is important for you to visit that day, please make sure that you are here and in line ½ hour prior to closing time. This ensures your special visit. Once lines have been closed for the evening we are unable to take additional visitors.

They’re Crying Now What?: We know it is stressful trying to get that perfect photo. Some children wait in line eagerly talking about the Easter Bunny, then once it is their turn, cling to parents and cry. Don’t despair, we will do what we can to make sure the visit is still the best it can be.  This means maybe even pulling you over to the side so that you and your child can watch up close as other children interact with the Bunny. Once they are ready, we will get them right back in to visit.  No waiting! We also encourage you to come any time you like to just give a wave or high 5 so your child is ready for their official photo visit. Mr. Bunny’s chair is oversized so parents are welcome to sit with their children and visit and take a photo too!

Uh Oh!? Someone Needs a Diaper Change: We realize that there are times you need to do a diaper change or perhaps a bit of a clean-up prior to visiting with Mr. Bunny after you have gotten into the line. After all that is what happens when you have kids! Simply flag down one of our staff members and they will get you out of line and arrange to get you right back into your same place in line. We want kids, parents and Mr. Bunny to be comfortable during the visit. This makes it enjoyable for everyone.

Museum Babies @ Des Moines Children's Museum - Valley West Mall
Apr 1 @ 11:00 am

Every Wednesday parents with babies (less than a year) and any older siblings get to connect and explore the museum prior to opening to the public. THIS IS FREE. Babies and their families can continue their fun in the museum the rest of the day. It can be hard for parents with new babies to get out and make friends, yet that’s when parents need support. Spit up, poopy diapers, and sleepless nights can definitely be talked about. Find your people, your tribe. There will be occasional special guest speakers.

Wednesdays After Class @ Science Center of Iowa

Every Wednesday during the school year, head to SCI from 1:00-5:00 pm to test your problem-solving skills with engineering challenges and unleash your creativity with extended making activities during Studio Time. And don’t forget to catch a live science program or planetarium show!
