Imagination Playschool allows kids 7 and under the chance to make new friends and play on all kinds of equipment: climbing tower, imagination playground, big wheels, play houses, tumbling mats, and gymnastics.
Open Play Time is Monday thru Friday 9am to 3pm.
Weekdays are for Open Play Time, so come play in our indoor Showroom where the weather is always perfect. Bring your friends for a play date or just come to enjoy the fun and meet some new friends.

Play, Grow, Learn! is an opportunity for you to use the Imagination Station to explore early literacy tips and books, play with others, and develop early literacy skills using Forest Avenue Library’s space and toys. Join the Science Center of Iowa for this three-part camp series. In this class students will learn basic coding concepts while working together to create apps, robotics, and e-textiles. Ages 10-14. Space is limited, please register at dmpl.org or by calling 283-4152.
Bring the whole family, humans and pets alike, for a festive photo to celebrate the 2019 holiday season!
You don’t even have to own a pet, or even bring them to participate, holiday photos of any kind are welcome. All proceeds from this event will go directly to help the animals in our care at the ARL.
Santa will be there to take photos with you as well – or if Santa isn’t your favorite holiday celebrity, we can politely tell him to take a break for some milk and cookies during your photo time. (He can’t turn that down, right?)
Reserve A Time Slot
When you sign up for a time slot online, you will pay a $10 reservation fee that will be put towards your photo package (digital and traditional photo packages are available). Those who have reserved a time slot online will be given priority at their registered time. Walk-ins must wait until there is an opening to take their pictures (hint: reserve your time slot in advance, and you won’t have to wait)

Families with children of various ages will delight in making memories during\ our Thursday night programs! As a reminder, these programs are free and pre-registration is necessary as indicated below. Family Build: Builders of all ages are welcome as we turn our library community room into a world of its own! Frozen Fiesta: Do you adore a little snowman who loves to give warm hugs? Are you excited for the new movie to come out? We are too! Make an Olaf craft hat, sip on hot cocoa, and meet Olaf’s favorite princesses — Anna and Elsa of course. Feel free to dress for the royal occasion. Zoo Show and Tell: Join the Blank Park Zoo for a little hands-on learning about some of their animals. Everyone in your family will get a chance to meet different animals and learn about their important role in the circle of life on Earth. STEM Bedtime Stories: End the day as a family with books and bedtime fun all related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Pajamas, slippers, and favorite bedtime friends and blankets are welcome. Program highlights include: picture books, puppets, felt stories, music, dancing, bubbles, and a STEM activity. Winter Wonderland: Celebrate the Winter Solstice Season as we turn the library into a space of wonder through stories, music, discovery stations, and a warm drink station. December 19 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration for each child required.
Family Bingo: Great fun for the whole family. We will have themed bingo cards for the younger children and traditional bingo cards for everyone else. Play to win, ‘cause everyone wins! Stretches and Stories: Bring the whole family for a 30-minute Yoga story time led by a local Yoga instructor. Enjoy some of your favorite children’s books while stretching into fun and silly poses. Literacy exposure, physical exercise, and giggles to end the day off great! Please bring a mat or a towel for each participating member of your family and feel free to come in your cozy pajamas. Mundo Music: All ages and levels are invited to this music and movement class that takes you to different areas of the globe to learn how people around the world express themselves. Read ’n Romp: Are you getting tired of winter? Need something new to do that keeps you inside and warm? Come to the library for a safe and cozy place to let your kids get the winter wiggles out and read together. This program features a variety of indoor movement activities and a book nook in our community room in lieu of our regular story times. Adults need to accompany their children at all times. African Culture Night: Bring the whole family for an exciting night that celebrates culture and traditions of the African Continent.
