As a reminder, these programs are free and pre-registration is necessary as indicated below. Pirate Story Time: Shiver me “Septembarrrs”! It’s the perfect month to celebrate the pirate life. Enjoy story time, crafting, and other explorative activities. Do as the pirates do! September 5 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. Registration required.

Family Bedtime Stories: End the day as a family with books and bedtime fun! Join us for this 30-minute program in your pajamas and slippers with your favorite sleepy time friend or blanket. Program highlights include picture books, puppets, felt stories, finger plays, music, dancing, and bubbles galore. September 12 6:15 – 6:45 p.m. Story Time Room. No registration required.

Festival Las Americas: Your library and Parks and Recreation departments are coming together to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month at Linnan Park. Local food trucks, live music, craft station, and more! September 19 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Linnan Park (8500 Alice Avenue.) No registration required.

Magic Show: With a blend of energy-packed comedy and magic, Tim Stolba will leave your family captivated with an unforgettable experience! September 26 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. No registration required.

Insect Zoo: This time of year tends to give insects a bad rap. Join Iowa State bug experts to get up-close and personal with the exciting world of arthropods. Learn about the basics of the arthropod (insects, spiders, tarantulas, millipedes, centipedes, scorpions, etc.) form and function. (Due to the length and structure of the program and delicacy of the insects, this program is highly recommended for children ages preschool and older with an adult.) October 3 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Library Community Room. Registration required.

Game Night: Bring your family and friends to the library for some traditional fun. We’ll supply an assortment of board games and a popcorn/drink station for you to enjoy together. October 10 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. No registration required.

Pumpkin Story Time and Decorating: Come join us for an evening of pumpkin inspired stories, music and decorating. Every child will get his or her own miniature pumpkin to decorate and take home. October 17 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. Registration required.

Disney Trivia: Are you a big Disney fan? Love trivia? Join us as we combine the two for a fun family event. Fill a whole table or join some new friends for this exciting contest. Oh, and feel free to come dressed as your favorite Disney character! October 24 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Library Community Room. Registration required.

Halloween Hop: Celebrate Halloween at the library with a costume dance party! We’ll pull out some of our favorite Halloween tunes along with treats and not so spooky fun. Also offered Friday morning (see page 15). Please choose only one date to attend. October 31 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. Registration required.

Bear Track Tales: Follow Dewey Bear’s tracks through an interactive, indoor story walk. This program is in lieu of our traditional story times and will be offered during our normal story time hours with Wednesday morning added. Each child will receive a story related craft to take home. Limit one craft per child. Also offered in the morning Monday, November 4 – Friday, November 8 (see page 9). November 7 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Story Time Room. No registration required.

Family Build: Builders of all ages are welcome as we turn our library community room into a world of its own! Various centers will be set up for different age groups so everyone in the family can create to their heart’s content. November 14 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. No registration required.

Frozen Fiesta: Do you adore a little snowman who loves to give warm hugs? Are you excited for the new movie to come out? We are too! Make an Olaf craft hat, sip on hot cocoa, and meet Olaf’s favorite princesses — Anna and Elsa of course. Feel free to dress for the royal occasion. November 21 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room. Registration required.

It’s our third annual Pumpkin Party!

Dress up in costume and come to the library for fun activities, games, crafts, and more!

Parents and children can participate in our costume contest. Have your picture taken at the party and we will post them online after the party. Voting will be held via Facebook and the winners will be announced the next day. There will be a prize for the best individual costume and best group costume. We will also announce the winner of the Pumpkin Coloring Contest.
