January 1st

January 4th & 5th

Come roll with the PAW Patrol as everybody’s favorite heroic pups race to the rescue on the day of the Great Adventure Bay Race in PAW Patrol Live! Race To The Rescue.  On stage at the Des Moines Civic Center. Find additional info. here.

January 10th

Bundle up and take in the brisk winter air as you snowshoe under the full moon in Grandview Park. The Full Moon Snowshoe Hike is hosted by Des Moines Parks and Recreation.  All ages are welcome. Anyone under 12 years old will need to have a guardian present.

Drop the kids off with Ankeny Parks & Recreation for Friday Fun Night! They’ll play games, make arts and crafts, play sports, watch movies, and more. Pizza provided.

January 11th

Get ready to move and groove at Altoona Public Library’s Winter Disco Dance Party! Bring your friends and dance under the disco lights. For kids ages 2-12. Registration is required.

January 17th

Eccentric John Dolittle (Robert Downey, Jr), famed doctor and veterinarian of Victorian England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of animals for company. ”Doolittle” hits Des Moines Theatres today.

January 17th & 18th

Children & Families of Iowa’s  Kidsfest is Iowa’s largest children’s festival. Each year thousands of people attend KidsFest at the Iowa State Fairgrounds where they enjoy the free entertainment on multiple stages, costume characters and mascots, games, bounce houses, make and take activities, visit the HyVee Hometown area, explore the exhibits, and so much more.

January 18th

Join Waukee Parks & Recreation for their annual FamilyFest. This FREE, family friendly event will help the kiddos burn off some cabin fever energy.  Check out Waukee area businesses, enjoy games and prizes, and jump on inflatables. EVERYTHING IS FREE! 

January 24th

Today is National Compliment Day.  Compliment Day is celebrated by offering sincere compliments to people you know. Use this day as an excuse to challenge your kids to see how many compliments they can give to individuals they know, like their siblings!   

January 25th

Iowa Bike Expo is one of the biggest one-day bike shows in the Midwest held at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines. This FREE-to-the-public event hosts over 5,000 people shopping for destinations, gear, bikes, and more. Find additional info. here.
