Visitors Can Expect a “Tweet” Treat in Downtown Des Moines This Summer

Visitors Can Expect a “Tweet” Treat in Downtown Des Moines This Summer

This post is sponsored by the Greater Des Moines Partnership.

Are you looking for a fun activity to do in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) this month? You might remember the Downtown DSM Hide and Seek Ornaments You Keep event held last December. That event saw great success in bringing a scavenger hunt to Downtown DSM while highlighting local artists in a new way. As we gear up for the return of outdoor events, including the Des Moines Arts Festival®, the Greater Des Moines Partnership is collaborating with local artists again to host a ceramic bird scavenger hunt, where residents and visitors can search for 90 birds hidden by local artists throughout Downtown DSM. The Downtown DSM Tweet Week event will take place June 19-27, 2021.

By following Downtown DSM’s social media pages, participants can find clues posted by Noon each day. Hints will be posted on:

Local Artists

Local artists will deliver the ceramic birds to various Downtown DSM neighborhoods, including the Historic East Village, Western Gateway Park, Central Downtown and the Historic Court District. Each collaborating artist will showcase their vision by decorating the birds with their unique artistry, creating original designs for you to keep. Artists include:

  • Emily Mac Farland – June 19, June 20 (Western Gateway Park)
  • Marion Nehmer – June 21, June 22 (Historic Court District)
  • Diane Hayes – June 23, June 24 (Historic East Village)
  • Linda Lewis – June 25, June 26 (Central Downtown)
  • Judy Goodwin – June 27 (Central Downtown)

The Partnership encourages participants to post pictures on their own social accounts when they find a bird to help showcase our local participating artists who are sharing their talents through this fun Downtown DSM event. Don’t forget to include the hashtags #downtownDSMUSA, #DSMlocal and #DSMUSA when you do! Note: We ask that please only take one ceramic bird in order for more people to participate.
