The Easter bunny is back on Sunday, April 12th, and he’s packed his basket full of more than just eggs. While traditional pictures at the mall are always an option, we’ve found a bunch of events in the Des Moines area that offer more than just your standard photo-op. This year take your bunny photos up a notch by incorporating some family fun to go along with them.
For some extra special Easter activities, check out these events around town, including massive Easter egg hunts, crafts and games and breakfast with your favorite bunny make these Easter Bunny photo ops a hop above the rest!

The Easter Bunny arrives at Valley West Mall on Friday, March 20, 2020. Kids can get their photos taken and enjoy a ride on the Easter train for $2.00 or three for $5.00. Please note that Valley West will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Help the Waukee Parks and Recreation Department spread some Easter cheer around Waukee’s Downtown businesses by participating in their Easter Coloring Contest! The contest will be open through April 1, 2020 and the winner will receive an egg’cellent Easter basket filled with goodies.
Stop by Urbandale Hy-Vee’s Market Grille on Saturday, March 28, 2020 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm. The Easter Bunny will be there for a meet and greet, kids’ activities and more.
Stop by your Altoona Hy-Vee on Saturday, March 28, 2020 and enjoy breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 8:00 to 11:00 am. There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt in the Civic Plaza Park (West side of Hy-Vee). First age group 1-4 11:00 am, 5-8-year-old 11:20 am and 8-12-year-old 11:40 am.
Join the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad & Museum on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 10:00 am to 12:00 noon for a ride aboard the all new Easter Bunny Express! The Easter Bunny Express features a 30-minute train ride across the 156′ tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge, and the Des Moines River Bridge on its way to the Easter egg patch. At the patch, you will “hop” off the train to collect eggs and see the Easter Bunny, who will “hop” on the train and ride it back to town with you. Once back at the station, the party moves to the Museum where children will exchange their eggs for goodies, take pictures with the Easter Bunny, check out the museum, and take part in other fun activities.
Hop on over to the Theatrical Shop to enjoy fun for the whole family on Meet the Easter Bunny Day – Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. They’ll have face painting, photo ops with the best bunny ever, free candy, and some sweet sales going on.
Hop into Uptown Ankeny on Thursday, April 9, 2020 to visit the Easter Bunny at Pingora Outdoors located at SW 3rd & Cherry Street. Receive your magic number, while supplies last, then hunt for your egg at the participating businesses from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.
Get a pic with the Easter Bunny and enjoy games, prizes, free hot dog lunch, a puppet show and more at Union Park United Methodist Church (2305 E 12th Street, Des Moines) on Saturday, April 11, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. This FREE event is open to the public. Everyone is welcome!
