Families with children of various ages will delight in making memories during\ our Thursday night programs! As a reminder, these programs are free and pre-registration is necessary as indicated below. For programs that require registration, please register each person attending to ensure that we have plenty of supplies available. Go online, call, or stop in the library to register.
Read ’n Romp: Are you getting tired of winter? Need something new to do that keeps you inside and warm? Come to the library for a safe and cozy place to let your kids get the winter wiggles out and read together. This program features a variety of indoor movement activities and a book nook in our community room in lieu of our regular story times. Adults need to accompany their children at all times. African Culture Night: Bring the whole family for an exciting night that celebrates culture and traditions of the African Continent. Story time and music followed by exploration stations that involve all the senses such as a taste testing, an art project, language, and more! Bear Track Tales: Follow Dewey Bear’s tracks through an interactive, indoor story walk. Each child will receive a story time mini prize to take home. Limit one per child. Art Night Out: March is National Art Month! Enjoy a creative evening making art as a family. Program begins with a short story time featuring a famous artist and an art project follows. March 5 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration required for each child. STEM
Bedtime Stories: End the day as a family with books and bedtime fun all related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Pajamas, slippers, and favorite bedtime friends and blankets are welcome. Program highlights include picture books, puppets, felt stories, music, dancing, bubbles, and a STEM activity. Science Show: Join Iowa’s Grout Museum to explore the magic of bubbles! Why are bubbles always round? What is needed to create a giant bubble? Discover the answer to these questions and more as we experiment and have a blast with bubbles. March 19 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration required for each attendee.
Family Sing Along: Explore music together in a relaxed and playful setting. This is a 45 minute educationally-based program taught by local instructor and guitarist, Denise Forney. This class includes exploration of our natural singing voices, early music concepts, a variety of movement, and early music concepts with instruments. The Wonders of Water: Celebrate life on planet Earth! Library Staff is teaming up with the Polk County Conservation to bring a program in which you become a water molecule and travel through the water cycle. Enjoy this hands-on experience with various activities and an eco-prize at the end geared towards families with children ages 5 and older. Siblings of all ages are welcome. April 2 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room Registration required for each child.
Stretches and Stories: Bring the whole family for a 30-minute Yoga story time led by a local Yoga instructor. Enjoy some of your favorite children’s books while stretching into fun and silly poses. Literacy exposure, physical exercise, and giggles will end the day off great! Please bring a mat or a towel for each participating member of your family and feel free to come in your cozy pajamas. Stories, Seeds, and Songs: Ready, set, grow! Jump-start the summer sun by participating in stories, music, dance, and a planting activity all related to the joys of spring planting, summer gardening, and fall harvesting. Make ‘n Take Mother’s Day Crafts: We will provide the supplies and some ideas to get you inspired. Make and take something truly from the heart for the mothers in your life! While supplies last. April 23 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Library Community Room No registration required.
