On January 1, 2015, I published my first blog post on dsm4kids, and it feels fitting that today, January 1, 2025, I’m writing my final post. After much reflection, I’ve made the difficult decision to move on from dsm4kids. While this wasn’t an easy choice, it’s the right one for me and my family at this time.
When I started this journey, my goal was simple: to help Des Moines area families discover fun and meaningful things to do together. I hope we accomplished that mission. I’ve always believed the best memories are made when families spend quality time together, whether it’s through play, exploration, or just enjoying each other’s company. Every day is the perfect day to create memories that last a lifetime.
Over the past ten years, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to connect with our readers, local business owners, contributors, and so many amazing individuals in the Des Moines community. These connections have been a true blessing, and I will always cherish the relationships we’ve built through this platform.
As my own family has grown and changed—with my oldest now off to college—I’ve realized it’s time for me to embrace a new chapter. The content creation landscape has evolved significantly since we launched, and it feels like the right moment to step away and make space for other priorities in my life.
Des Moines remains a fantastic place to raise kids and create those cherished family memories. I encourage you to keep exploring, planning, and enjoying activities with your children. These moments not only strengthen family bonds but also help kids learn about their place in the world and build lasting connections. Whether it’s an afternoon at the park, a seasonal event, or a quiet day at home, these shared experiences are priceless.
The dsm4kids website will remain live with its existing content for the next year or so. While there won’t be any new posts, updates to the Calendar, or weekly newsletters, I hope the resources already available will continue to inspire your family adventures.
Thank you for allowing dsm4kids to be part of your lives over the past decade. Here’s to new adventures, new memories, and a bright and playful 2025!
Warmly,
Nicole
