Hit the court as the newly minted Iowa Wolves host the Lakeland Magic for their 2017-18 season home opener. You can meet their new mascot and the first 1,500 fans will receive a FREE Iowa Wolves T-shirt.

Send a wish list to the North Pole during Dear Santa Letter Week, November 7th – 14th. Sign up with your local Parks and Recreation Department and the big guy will respond with a phone call or a letter!
- Ankeny Parks & Recreation/Letters to Santa: Fill out the ‘Letter to Santa’ form and receive a personalized letter back from Santa! Forms are available at the Parks & Recreation Office beginning November 1st. All forms must be submitted by Dec. 6.
- Clive Parks and Recreation: “The North Pole is Calling” Clive kids age 3-7. Santa Claus will be making phone calls on Wednesday, December 13, between 6:00 and 7:30 pm. Contact the Clive Parks and Recreation office in early December for an application.
- Urbandale Parks & Recreation/Letter from Santa: Kids 10 and under will enjoy the opportunity to receive a letter from Santa mailed directly to them. The letter will arrive approximately one week before Christmas. Registration Deadline: December 8th.
- Waukee Parks & Recreation/Letters from Santa: To receive a personalized letter from Santa, please contact the Waukee Parks & Recreation Department at (515) 978-0007 from November 1 – 17.
Kids in grades K-4 can see the Dr. Seuss classic “The Cat in the Hat” live on stage at Stephens Auditorium in Ames. Part of their Youth Matinee Series tickets are just $5 to attend.
Observe a moment of silence in honor of Veteran’s Day on Saturday, November 11th, 2017. Our article 2017 Veteran’s Day Events in Des Moines includes dates and details of ceremonies honoring America’s war veterans here in Central Iowa.
Explore the East Village during the 2017 Holiday Promenade on Friday, November 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Shop and peruse the festive windows, enjoy a FREE trolley ride, grab a bite to eat and listen to carolers. Visit the Brenton Skating Plaza to visit Santa (6:00 to 6:30), go ice skating, see ice sculptures and enjoy the tree lighting.
A favorite at our house, fans of R. J. Palacio’s book Wonder know that the story of Auggie Pullman, a fifth grader with facial differences, sparks lots of conversations. There’ll be more buzz when the movie hits the big screen on November 17th.
