March 1st
You won’t want to miss the Goldfish Swim School Urbandale FREE Grand Opening Event. Families are invited to stop in to meet their team, tour their state-of-the-art learn-to-swim facility and see firsthand all that Goldfish Swim School has to offer. Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit and RSVP!
March 7th
Blippi Live brings the energetic and loveable character Blippi off the screen and onto the Des Moines Civic Center stage with world-class production, audience engagement and amazing music.
Mother and Son Fun Night hosted by Des Moines Parks and Recreation. Enjoy live animals from the Blank Park Zoo, hop in the video gaming truck, compete in an inflatable obstacle course, learn boxing lessons with the police PAL Boxing Club and much more. When you run out of fuel, get a piece of pizza and a drink to bounce back into the action. Parents, relatives, guardians and/or role models are welcome to attend the event with their children. Registration is required.
March 8th
Be sure to set your clocks ahead when Daylight Savings Time officially begins at 2:00 am! Less sleep is a bit of a bummer but more sunshine totally rocks!
March 14th
3.141592653… Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Join the Science Center of Iowa to celebrate with special pi(e)-themed activities, including a “pi(e)-plosion,” an enormous (clean) “pie” explosion at 3:14 pm, and a community pi chain, writing as many digits of pi as possible with a color-coded paper chain.
March 19th
The spring equinox (vernal equinox) marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Polk County Conservation Naturalists will lead a Vernal Equinox Hike in Jester Park that will feature spring equinox facts, folklore, and more! All ages are welcome at this FREE event.
March 20th – 22nd
Kick off your spring season at the Iowa Flower Lawn and Garden Show. Shop the marketplace of vendors selling flowers, herbs, bulbs, garden tools, outdoor furniture, decor and more. Attend educational seminars, participate in activities for the whole family and visit the many beautiful landscape displays throughout the show. Hosted by RJ Promotions.
March 27th
OPENING DELAYED – Acclaimed filmmaker Niki Caro brings the epic tale of China’s legendary warrior to life in Disney’s “Mulan,” in which a fearless young woman risks everything out of love for her family and her country to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known. See the amazing story this month at a movie theatre in Des Moines.
March 28th
The DSM Book Festival will return to Downtown Des Moines this month. The FREE event will feature internationally-acclaimed authors, book club discussions led by featured commentators, hands-on activities, children’s programming, food, drink, live music and more.
Bring the whole family to the Clive Public Library for a marvelous Magic Show and Workshop with Jonathan May! Both events are FREE to attend. Registration is required for the workshop.
