National Night Out Events Happening in the Des Moines Area

National Night Out is on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 and is a national community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships.  There will be different events and block parties taking place though out the Des Moines area where the community will have an opportunity to meet local law enforcement. Here’s where you can celebrate National Night Out this year in Des Moines.

Des Moines

Des Moines Police Department

This will be Des Moines’ 30th year of participation in National Night Out. Several neighborhoods will hold block parties, special activities, and neighbors will turn on their porch lights.

Beaverdale Neighborhood

Beaverdale, Waveland Park, and surrounding residents are invited to participate in National Night Out. This is an evening of family-friendly fun, sponsored by the local businesses, the Des Moines Police and Des Moines Firefighters, Waveland Park Neighborhood Association, and the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association, in an attempt to get neighbors interacting with local safety enforcement and neighbors in their community.

Downtown Neighborhood, East Village Neighborhood

Families are invited to Cowles Commons (221 Walnut Street) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm to enjoy local music, food and drink samples and prize giveaways provided by local businesses.

Drake and Drake Park Neighborhood Associations

Turn on your porch lights, bring the kids, and join your neighbors from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Drake Park, northeast of 24th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue. As part of this annual community-building event, you’ll get to meet the neighborhood’s public safety officers and representatives from the city, the county, area churches, and Drake University—not to mention enjoy games, fun, and food with your neighbors. And it’s all FREE!

Altoona

Altoona Christian Church

Join the Altoona Christian Church from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for a FREE family-friendly event! This community festival will honor local police and fire departments.  Parking is available across the street at Clay Elementary School.

Polk City

Polk City Police Department

The Polk City Police Department will host their National Night Out event from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.  There will be several displays and vendors in front of the Police and Fire Department buildings on Van Dorn Street.

Urbandale

Urbandale Police Department

This National Award-Winning event is a fun evening to come out and get to know your local law enforcement to help keep our community a safe place to live, work and play!  You will be able to meet officers from patrol, bicycle patrol, Suburban Emergency Response Team, K-9 Sabre and many more!  This year’s event will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Urbandale Police Department’s front parking lot and the soccer field to the west of the Police Department.

Windsor Heights

Windsor Heights Police Department

There’s something for every member of the family to enjoy at Windsor Heights’ annual National Night Out event. There will be food, inflatables, helicopter display, balloon animals, stickers, coloring books, face painting, spin art, barrel train rides, rock wall, K-9 demo, prizes and drawings and jaws of life demo. Join the festivities from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Colby Park.
