Santa Watch! How Kids Can Track Santa in Des Moines

For many families, one of their Christmas traditions is tracking Santa Claus’s progress on Christmas Eve using a Santa Tracker.  Here’s a few ways kids can keep tabs on the big guy’s progress as he makes his way across Iowa.

NORAD

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has been tracking Santa’s yuletide journey for over 60 years. The NORAD Tracks Santa Web site, www.noradsanta.org, features Santa’s North Pole Village, which includes a holiday countdown, games, activities and more.

Official NORAD Tracks Santa apps are also available in the Windows, Apple and Google Play stores, so parents and children can countdown the days until Santa’s launch on their smart phones and tablets. Tracking opportunities are also offered on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google+.  Santa followers just need to type “@noradsanta” into each search engine to get started.

You can also watch Santa’s progress on local TV networks, as local weather teams give up-to-date tracking reports from NORAD.

Google Santa Tracker

The Google Maps Santa Tracker was created by Google.  On Christmas Eve, you can log into Santa’s dashboard, which features the latest and greatest in Google Maps technology and sleigh engineering – which will allow you to track the man in red’s progress around the world, and also learn a little about some of his stops along the way.

Google’s friendly elves also invite kids to explore Santa’s village while he prepares for his journey.  There are several fun activities and they will be able to explore, play and learn with Santa’s elves through the end of December.

Where is Santa?

The Where is Santa app allows kids to follow Santa’s every move at any minute from anywhere (not just on Christmas Eve). It claims to have the most efficient and accurate tracking Santa radar ever built. You can conduct a complete scan to find out Santa’s current location and activity. The sophisticated system will also display your location as well.

The app, which is available in the Windows, Apple and Google Play stores, estimates Santa’s arrival with a countdown clock. Millions of Santa tracking stations are set up around the world and they will diligently report and update Santa’s every move during Christmas Eve. Your kids will be able to see and track Santa’s entire journey from the North Pole!
