Easter Egg Hunts for Des Moines Kids

It’s time for Des Moines kids to dust off their baskets, because it’s egg hunting season!

Easter Sunday is March 31, 2024, and one of the best ways to celebrate with kids is to attend one of the Des Moines area’s treat-filled Easter egg hunts.  While most of the Easter egg hunts are FREE, a few require paid admission or reservations. And, as always, dress appropriately and call ahead or check websites for any potential weather postponements.

March 22nd

Sensory Friendly Glowtastic Egg Hunt

The Des Moines Children’s Museum invites you to an after-hours continuous glow-in-the-dark egg hunt in a calm and tranquil setting. The event runs from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, with all regular exhibits open for exploration. Enjoy sensory bins, communication boards, and a soothing low-light space, ensuring a delightful experience for all participants.

Family Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt

When the sun goes down, the fun begins! Hosted by Indianola Parks and Recreation at the Activity Center, the hunt takes place from 8:15 to 9:15 pm. Participants need to dress for the weather, bring a sack or basket to collect eggs, and their own flashlight. After the hunt prizes will be awarded. $7.50 per child (nonresidents) or $6.00 each (residents). Registration required.

March 23rd

Community Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Debra Heights Wesleyan Church’s annual Easter Egg Hunt is a great way to kick off your Easter celebration! They will have approximately 10,000 Easter eggs scattered at Woodlawn Park. Kids will be divided into three age groups. The fun starts at 9:00 am sharp. Don’t be late!

Easter Scavenger Hunt Around Norwalk

FREE: This is a one-of-a-kind, Easter egg scavenger hunt around Norwalk  from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Go to The Norwalk United Methodist Church and receive a set of clues that will send you driving around Norwalk in search of eggs and prizes. (Prizes are meant for toddlers-5th graders) Registration is not required but appreciated and helpful in planning supplies!

Ankeny Kiwanis Club’s Community Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join the Ankeny Kiwanis Club at the softball fields at Hawkeye Park for their annual Easter Egg Hunt.  The fun begins at 9:30 am and children will be separated into 4 groups – 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 6, and 7 to 8. Lots of family fun for everyone! There will also be an accessible hunt on the Miracle League Field.

Za Ga Zig Shrine Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join the Za Ga Zig Shrine Center for an egg-cellent Easter Egg Hunt starting at 9:30 am (Weather Permitting). This event caters to ages 1-10, with egg hunts separated by age groups. In addition to the outdoor fun, they’ll also have indoor games and prizes for all to enjoy.

Beaverdale Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Be sure to bring a container for your candy and prizes to Beaverdale Park from 10:00 to 10:15 am. Hosted by the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association in Beaverdale Park this annual community event is for kids ages three to 10 years of age.

Geocache Egg Hunt

Kids ages 3 and up can learn how to use a GPS and go search the park to find nests of hidden eggs, collecting prizes and candy along the way. Keep an eye out for the “golden egg” worth a special prize!  Hosted by Polk County Conservation at Jester Park Nature Lodge at 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.  The fee is $5 and registration is required by March 15th.

Wakonda Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join Wakonda Christian Church for their annual Easter Egg Hunt. It’s bound to be a hopping good time, filled with an abundance of candy-filled eggs for all. Beginning at 10:00 am, children will participate in separate egg hunts organized by age.

New Hope United Methodist Church Community Easter Egg Hunt 

FREE: Hop on over to New Hope UMC for an egg-citing Easter Egg hunt on the church lawn starting at 2:00 pm. Their egg hunts separated by age, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. Children ages 0-12 are invited to join in the fun!

Mount Olive Lutheran Church & School Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Bring the kids along for an exciting Easter egg hunt and a host of engaging activities, promising an enjoyable afternoon for the whole family.  Activities start at 2:00 pm with the Easter Egg Hunt starting at 3:30 pm. 

Special Egg Event

FREE: The Special Egg Event is for children with special needs and their families. The fun starts at 3:00 pm and goes until 5:00 pm at a NEW location at R&R Realty Urbandale. Enjoy food, carnival games, activity areas, and egg hunts that are designed for your child.

March 30th

Highland Park/Oak Park Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: HPOP is excited to host an Easter Egg hunt for children aged 1-12, featuring a staggered start beginning at 9:00 am. It’s fun for all ages, with music, prizes, and even a special visit from the Easter Bunny himself! Activities kick off at 8:30 am at Riverview Park.

Clive Fire Fighter’s Association Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: The Clive Fire Fighter’s Association is holding its annual Easter Egg Hunt in Linnan Park at 9:00 am. The Easter Egg Hunt is for children ages 1-10. There will be separate egg hunts for younger kids and older kids.  There are special eggs that can be exchanged at the fire station for a prize.

Ted’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join Ted Lare Design Build & Garden Center for the most egg-citing event of the season. Two egg-ceptional hunts await starting at 9:00 am: one for kids ages 8 and above, and a special area for the little ones, ensuring every kiddo has a chance at the fun. With over 8,000 eggs brimming with prizes and candy, there’s plenty of excitement waiting to be discovered.

Urbandale Parks and Recreation The Great Egg Hunt!

FREE: The Great Egg Hunt! hosted by Urbandale Parks and Recreation is for kids ages 10 and under at the Giovannetti Community Shelter. Kids can fill up their baskets with all the candy and eggs they see starting at 10:00 am.

Waukee’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Hop on over to fill your baskets full of candy at Waukee’s annual Easter Egg Hunt! Three age groups get to take off and grab their share of eggs including, 4 years and under, 5-7 and 8-10 years old.   The Easter Bunny greets kids in Centennial Park at 10:00 a.m. Rain or shine.

Creekside Church Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join Creekside Church in Urbandale for their Annual Easter egg hunt. Hear the Easter Story and help your kids search for over 4,000 Eggs from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. 

Crestwood Baptist Church Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join Crestwood Church for their annual FREE Easter Egg Hunt. With over 4,000 eggs tucked away, their age-separated Egg Hunts cater to children from preschool to 5th grade. The festivities kick off at 11:00 am.

Winterset Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join Winterset Parks and Recreation for their annual Easter Egg Hunt where they will have thousands of eggs for kids to fill their baskets. A few lucky kiddos may even find a golden egg which will get you a special prize!  The hunt starts at 11:00 am for kids ages 0-9.

Kids’ Easter Eggstravaganza

FREE: Join Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines for games, crafts, Easter egg hunts (age 6 and under), inflatables, snacks and photo opportunities, all one hour prior to each of their Saturday kid-friendly Easter services between 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

St. Mark Lutheran Church Community Easter Egg Hunt

FREE: Join St. Mark Lutheran Church for games, crafts, activities, snacks, The Easter Story, and of course, an Easter Egg Hunt at 3:30 pm. You are also invited to an early Easter church service at 5:00 pm.
