Welcome to dsm4kids’ calendar of family events!
No matter where you live in the Des Moines metro, you can rely on our calendar to find nearby events and activities your kids will love!
To keep up to date on weekend events and activities be sure to sign up for our Weekend Fun Guide!
We make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information listed on the calendar. However, you should always call ahead to confirm dates, times, location and other information before heading to an event or activity, since it may change.
Events considered for inclusion onto the dsm4kids calendar include those at local venues, including free and low-cost events, as well as special events that may require paid admission. Events are posted to the online calendar in a timely manner throughout the month.
While all submissions are considered, inclusion is based on event relevance. Events occurring outside of Central Iowa or events primarily geared toward adults will not be listed.

Uptown Ankeny is so excited to host this new event from the Ankeny Art Center! Come shop the lineup of fine art vendors and participate in art-centric attractions in Ankeny’s original neighborhood from 10am-4pm on Saturday, May 11th, 2024.

Join your friends and favorite characters for a special evening at the coolest party around. Wear a princess or prince costume over your swimsuit and enter a world of make believe! Characters will vary based on date and availability. Pre-registration required. Each paying participant must be accompanied by one adult 18+.

Swim, bike and run in the 18th Annual Ankeny Youth Triathlon. A bike helmet is required for the bike portion of the event. Kids of all levels are encouraged to compete. Packet pickup will be done on site the morning of the race.
Ages 6-10: Swim 50 yards, bike 2,750m and run 1,000m
Ages 11-14: Swim 100 yards, bike 5,500m and run 2,000m

Residents of all ages are invited to attend All-City Play Day at Hawkeye and Wagner Parks, located next to City Hall, 410 W First Street. This event is free and open to all Ankeny residents.
All-City Play Day has activities for all ages, including:
- Canoes
- Foam Party
- Touch a Truck with Ankeny Public Works
- Bike Rodeo with Ankeny Police, free bike helmets while supplies last!
- RC Boats
- Inflatables
- Dunk Tank
- Face painting
- Big Wheel Races
- Spin Art
- Sports and more!
Hawkeye & Wagner Parks are located at 410 W First St. in Ankeny.
All-City Play Day is produced by the Ankeny Parks and Recreation Department. The event is sponsored by Northwest Bank.
